- Jose Aldoâs coach advises him to retire after UFC 283
According to his longtime manager and coach Andre Pederneiras, Jose Aldo will likely compete in the octagon for the last time on Jan. 21 at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After losing a decision to Merab Dvalishvili in August, Pederneiras said the former two-time UFC featherweight champion has just one fight left on his contract with the organization and views the next weekend in Rio de Janeiro as a fantastic opportunity to "finish" his career. Pederneiras acknowledges that when Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 to earn the interim championship and the organization declined to schedule a rematch with Conor McGregor, he gave Aldo the advice "to retire a long time ago." He said âHe [Jose] didnât need it since that fight, much less now,â Pederneiras said. âIâd tell him to stop. I think Aldo has already conquered a lot and it wonât be this last fight [against Dvalishvili] that will take away his legacy in the sport.â Pederneiras stated that he will meet with the UFC on September 24 in Las Vegas to learn what the organisation has in store for the Brazilian and talk with Aldo about his future plans. Although the head of Nova Unio indicated he would like to face Dominick Cruz next, he does not believe the fellow UFC and WEC legend would consent to a match in Brazil. Pederneiras concurs that Aldo should retire now, despite the fact that he feels "trapped" in a contract and unable to return to compete in other sports in the future, such as professional boxing and Muay Thai, if he so chooses. âIâve seen many retire and want to fight years later,â Pederneiras said. âMost of them are like that. Thales [Leites] left the UFC, fought his last fight against Hector Lombard [and said] âbrother, I donât want this sh*t anymoreâ. Two, three years have passed, and now heâs calling me to get him a fight. Iâve seen that my whole life. And it will happen with him.â Do you think that we might see Jose Aldo in the octagon at UFC 283?
- Brendan Schaub launches a scathing attack on Dana White in his latest instagram post
A section of the MMA community believed the entire issue was pre-planned after a hectic week in Las Vegas where the organization was forced to rearrange the top three fights of its pay-per-view event due to Khamzat Chimaev's historic weight miss. Pat Miletich, a former UFC champion, and Schaub were two of many who offered their thoughts. They theorized that there was a plot by the UFC to enhance the card in order to boost pay-per-view demand. The UFC president attacked Miletich after Tuesday's episode of Dana White's Contender Series, calling him "the dumbest motherf*cker on the planet." White was also made aware of Schaub's own theories, which he claimed "make sense." The former UFC heavyweight turned podcaster and comedian got personal right away, alluding to a previous Twitter argument with White, and he reiterated his doubt over the organization's official statement on the UFC 279 shakeup. He wrote âSorry, we just donât buy what youâre telling us after lying numerous times but the sheep media you pick to attend events donât have the balls to call you out,â Schaub wrote. âJust in the recent press conference you were caught lying about extra compensation to the fighters. âYou need a reality check. Youâre surrounded by âYes men.â Youâre not special, youâre not original. Youâre a low budget Vince McMahon. Every move you make is a copycat of that dude. Only thing you have in common is youâre both on steroids and dress like a*******. Looks like the beef between Dana White and Brendan Schaub looks far from settled. Do you think Dana White staged some of the UFC 279 drama to get extra pay per views in? Let us know in the comments
- Robert Whittaker Responded to Khamzat Chimaevâs Offer to Train
Khamzat Chimaev would compete successfully against the top middleweights in the UFC, according to Robert Whittaker. Although it may not be the most packed category from head to toe, middleweight is brimming with world-class talent, with Israel Adesanya at the forefront. But right behind him stands Robert Whittaker, whom many consider worthy of a significant spot in the pound-for-pound rankings. One person who has previously hinted at a permanent weight increase to 185 pounds is Khamzat Chimaev, one of the top welterweight fighters at the moment. Since joining the UFC, he has picked up a couple of great victories at middleweight but hasn't really faced a top 15 opponent. During a post-fight interview over the weekend, he mentioned that he loves Whittaker and would like to train with him in the future. Although Chimaev (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) had previously competed at middleweight, he has become a prominent contender at 170 pounds. However, many questions whether his future is at 185 pounds after he missed the welterweight cutoff by 7.5 pounds for his initially planned fight against Nate Diaz this past Saturday at UFC 279. When questioned about a hypothetical fight with Whittaker, "Borz" claimed he'd instead train with Whittaker than fight him. Chimaev has previously stated his desire to become a UFC dual champion (24-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC). The once undefeated middleweight champion is undoubtedly curious. âIâm happy with that,â Whittaker told Middle Easy. âHis personality is just, what you see is what you get. Heâs wild, but heâs a phenomenal fighter. I like his approach to hunting bad guys. I was impressed with that (Kevin) Holland fight, and yeah, Iâm very interested in seeing where he goes with this.â âDefinitely, it is a compliment. Iâd like to work with him because anyone that can implement game plans the way he has, and obviously, his wrestling and grappling are top-tier. Heâs trained with the likes of Till as well. Hopefully, our paths cross and we can get some good work together.â Whittaker stated he would gladly train with the unbeaten fighter and that they might be able to alter certain things in an interview with RJ Clifford and Din Thomas on Sirius XM. âI heard what Khamzat said about wanting to fight bad guys and I can get behind that,â Whittaker said. âIf he wants to train together, I want to train together, and we can go hunt bad guys together. âI think it will be a lot of fun, and we can run a muck on a lot of people.â Chimaev made headlines during UFC 279 fight week for his involvement in a backstage incident that resulted in the cancellation of the event's pre-fight press conference. He also significantly undershot the weight limit for his main event bout with Nate Diaz by 7.5 pounds, which forced the UFC to rearrange the top three fights.
- Jake Paul faces off Anderson Silva During their press conference in LA: âItâs my toughest fight yet.
For the first time ever, Jake Paul and Anderson Silva met yesterday to promote their impending boxing battle in Glendale, Arizona. Paul, 25, and Silva, 47, engaged in a thrilling face-off in front of the cameras during a press conference at NeueHouse Hollywood where both competitors responded to queries from former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight championship contender Chael Sonnen. âI do think so, I think this could be the biggest payday of his career,â Paul said. âJust because this is like my first big fight. As crazy as that sounds, all the other fights have been decent, but this is the first big, big fight, with another massive name that brings a ton of business to the table." âTyron Woodley never really sold that many pay-per-views. Ben Askren didnât sell any PPVs. Nate Robinson never fought. [AnEsonGib] doesnât sell PPVs â the stadium was empty when Gib fought. So this is the first time Iâm fighting someone who brings just as much to the table as I do.â When asked if Silva's paycheck or his own was the cause of the smile on his face, Paul was evasive. âOh, I donât know It would be great,â he said. âI want the event to do well, obviously.â Paul has a perfect boxing record of 5-0, including knockout wins against Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren, both former MMA champions. After his two previous fights with Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr. were abruptly postponed, the YouTube sensation is eager to return to the ring. The 47-year-old former middleweight champion of the UFC has some professional boxing background. Since making a comeback to the ring last year, "The Spider" is 2-0 with victories over former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in back-to-back fights. On October 29, Paul vs. Silva will take place at Glendale, Arizona's Gila River Arena
- Anthony Joshua accepts terms to set up gigantic Fury fight on Dec 3rd
Tyson Fury's terms for a fight with Anthony Joshua have been accepted, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Joshua's management team. This brings the highly anticipated fight between the two heavyweight champions of the World Boxing Council one step closer to being a reality. 258 MGT tweeted âMatchroom Boxing can confirm, on behalf of Anthony Joshua, that we accepted all terms presented to us by Furyâs team. Due to the Queenâs passing, it was agreed to halt all communication. We are awaiting a response.â Eddie Hearn, Fury's promoter, revealed last week that Joshua had accepted an offer for 40% of the fight's earnings, with 60% going to Fury (32-0-1, 23 knockouts). The all-British match would take place on December 3 in Cardiff, Wales, most likely at Principality Stadium. When rival champion Oleksandr Usyk said he wouldn't fight again until early 2023 due to injuries, Joshua, the former World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, and World Boxing Organization world heavyweight champion with a 24-3 record (22 KOs), was offered the bout with Fury. On August 20 in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian fighter defeated Joshua for the second time in a row. Joshua had hoped for a bout date closer to Christmas, but according to Fury, the agreement required a fight on either November 26 or December 3. When Fury last competed, he defeated Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium to keep his WBC title. Shortly after, he declared his retirement before saying he would continue to fight. A scheduled showdown between the two was derailed last year when a US court decision made Fury have to take against Deontay Wilder a third time. Hopefully the fans can get what they want this time in order to see two heavyweights trade blows and go at each other with everything they have.
- Khamzat Chimaev's coach breaks silence on the Swede's weight miss
The UFC pay-per-view event this past Saturday in Las Vegas had one of the most dramatic lineup changes in the organization's history due to Chimaev's over seven-pound weight-cutting error for the scheduled welterweight main event match against Nate Diaz. By rearranging the six competitors in the top three fights, organizers were able to save the card, and Chimaev eventually faced Kevin Holland in the co-main event. Chimaev defeated Holland via overwhelming first-round submission, but he must now decide whether he can stay under the 170-pound weight limit. In order to explain the problem and correct faults that were made in training camp, his coach Andreas Michael made an appearance on The MMA Hour on Monday. âHis whole career heâs been fighting at welterweight,â Michael said. âHeâs missed weight this time, but itâs not as if heâs been missing weight all the time. Of course, heâs been having a hard time making weight, but heâs always made weight. The point of the thing is that weâre going to make it easier and fight at middleweight some of the fights, but weâre game for welterweight as well. âWeâre not going to lose our ranking there, hopefully, because weâre so close to a title fight there. Once we take the belt there, weâre going to pursue the middleweight division with all our hearts. Right now, some fights are going to be at middleweight, some are going to be at middleweight, worthwhile fights. But thatâs up to the UFC, of course, thatâs not up to us.â It was unclear whether Chimaev would even remain on the card after a wild 12-hour period in which he was clearly struggling to cut weight during morning weigh-ins. Chimaev was "locking up and cramping" while attempting to lose weight, according to UFC President Dana White, who later revealed to ESPN that his physicians had forbidden him from continuing the procedure. Michael made it clear that he had decided to stop losing weight after consulting with doctors. He also made it plain that neither his team nor the UFC had any grand plans in mind when Chimaev missed the mark. The coach continued by saying that Chimaev had even gone so far as to promise him his purse to Diaz. He wanted to fight Nate,â Michael said. âI said to him, âThe doctor told you, you canât continue and Iâm going to stop the weight cut. Iâm going to stop it because in all honesty I canât go against the doctorâs words. Think if something happened. Iâd never forgive myself. So what I said to him was that you better prepare yourself so that youâre not going to get in a fight. Chimaev would like to stay at welterweight if Michael has his way in order to contend for the title in that weight class. Where do you see Khamzat Chimaev fighting in his next bout in the UFC? Does he stay at Welterweight and move up to Middleweight?
- Daniel Rodriguez calls for the Li Jing Liang rematch after controversial victory at UFC 279
Daniel Rodriguez is sick of hearing that he lost to Li Jingliang. Rodriguez (16-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) won a split decision over Jingliang (19-7 MMA, 11-5 UFC) on Saturday's UFC 279 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Even UFC president Dana White thought the decision was a mistake. Rodriguez admitted during the post-fight press conference that it was a close fight, but that he did more than Jingliang. However, he is willing to reverse the situation in order to silence the critics. Jingliang appeared on "The MMA Hour" recently, wearing a homemade t-shirt with the word "ROBBED" written across it and expressing his disappointment with the fight's outcome. He said âOf course I think I won the fight,â Jingliang said. âI won the fight. âWhen Bruce Buffer declared the result, I couldnât believe that. I couldnât believe that. Itâs already an awful matchup, and the result was worse. And I think itâs just an injustice. I can accept a loss thatâs fine. But please tell me why â why I lost the fight. Please, the three judges, tell me why you think I lost the fight. Tell me. Explain to me, please.â Rodriguez was supposed to fight Kevin Holland in the main event, while Jingliang was supposed to fight Tony Ferguson. The card was shuffled after Khamzat Chimaev came in 7.5 pounds over the welterweight mark for his headliner against Nate Diaz, and Rodriguez ended up facing Jingliang in a 180-pound catchweight bout. Let us know your thoughts on who do you think wins the rematch if this fights takes place again?
- Aljamain Sterling has only praise for 'young killer' Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev's future looks bright, according to Aljamain Sterling. Chimaev's dominant ways continued this past weekend at UFC 279, as fans have grown accustomed to seeing. Originally scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout, "Borz" failed to make weight by seven and a half pounds. As a result, the UFC was forced to make some changes, resulting in Chimaev facing Kevin Holland in the co-main event. Chimaev dominated Holland from the start, submitting him via d'arce choke just over two minutes in. Sterling, who used his own great wrestling skills to rise to the top of the bantamweight division as champion, couldn't have been more impressed by yet another Chimaev pounding. Sterling gave his honest thoughts on Khamzat Chimaevâs on his Youtube channel performance and said âKhamzat Chimaev ... just an absolute beast and stud of an athlete and stud of a fighter, man,â âThe guy is just a special gift to this generation of MMA, in my personal and humble opinion. âI canât see anyone else on this [official UFC rankings] list who can really give him a significant challenge unless they are going to be specialists in the grappling department. Not just BJJ, they have to have some type of wrestling. I think Khamzat is a shoo-in to be a champion already.â Chimaev remains ranked third in the UFC welterweight rankings despite missing weight and winning his 12th consecutive fight. Now it's just a matter of whether he'll keep chasing that 170-pound title or try his hand at middleweight once more. Sterling, on the other hand, sees the 28-year-old smashing machine taking out all comers. âKhamzat is there and heâs coming for everybodyâs ass,â Sterling said. âI think heâs legitimately coming for everybody and the way heâs doing it, I think itâs scary. Scary good. He took one strike over the course of how many fights? The only person whoâs been able to really touch him up was Gilbert Burns.â Who do you think Khamzat Chimaev will face next?
- Khabib advises Khamzat Chimaev over UFC 279 âweight missâ
Khabib Nurmagomedov had some tough words for Khamzat Chimev after the latter failed to make weight for UFC 279 last week. Speaking at a recent event hosted by the non-profit organization Human Appeal, the former UFC champion questioned Chimaev's team, claiming that the young wolf is not surrounded by enough Muslims. âIf you are a Muslim, you should have good people around you â Muslims who can say: âHey, donât do this,ââ Nurmagomedov said. âI recently watched the weigh-in of Khamzat Chimaev. I followed what was happening with his weight and looked at his team. There are no Muslims around him and this is very bad. Because if you are a Muslim, you need good, strong people around you. [They] will say: âCome back, do this. âWhen you become famous and rich, when you gain power and [around you] there are no people who will give advice or you do not listen to them, then something will happen. You need good people, even if you donât like it, you need them,â he added. Chimaev failed to make weight for his scheduled UFC 279 main event against Nate Diaz, weighing 178.5 pounds, 8.5 pounds more than his contracted weight of 170 pounds. The undefeated welterweight was later consigned to the co-main event, where he faced Kevin Holland, while Diaz faced Tony Ferguson in the main event. Both Chimaev and Diaz went on to win their fights via submission. It is also worth noting that Nurmagomedov has failed to make weight on numerous occasions during his UFC career. In May 2013, he missed weight for his fourth UFC fight against Abel Trujillo at UFC 160 and was hospitalized two hours before his scheduled weigh-in to face Ferguson at UFC 209. The former champion also struggled to cut weight before defending his lightweight title at UFC 254. Perhaps, the GOAT should look over his own record before criticizing others. What do you think of Khabibâs comments on Khamzat Chimaev?
- Anderson Silva still wants to invite Chael Sonnen for BBQ
Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen's rivalry ranks among the greatest in mixed martial arts (MMA) history, despite their current friendliness. Trying to explain to someone in 2012 that the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) kingpin, Silva, and brash top contender, Sonnen, would one day be friends one day seemed far-fetched. That is not the case in 2022. In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Silva invited Sonnen to a barbecue at his house following Silva's second round technical knockout victory in the highly anticipated rematch at UFC 148 in July 2012. Sonnen's claim that he would play touch-butt with Silva's wife enraged the traditionally cool, calm, and collected Brazilian, who vowed to "break his teeth." 10 years forward at the Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva press conference the row between the two seems to have cooled down. Sonnen also explained why he had to miss out on the invite from Silva. âYou never come to my house for the barbecue, why?â Silva said. âOkay, okay, hereâs the thing,â Sonnen said. âI didnât think it was a sincere offer. If I knew I was really invited ...â âOf course!â Silva chimed in. âThen I didnât know if your wife forgave me, it was a whole thing,â Sonnen continued. âThatâs the real answer why I didnât come.â âYou need to come, please,â Silva said. âIn Brazil?â Sonnen responded. âNo, here. In Brazil, a lot of people try to kill you, trust me.â Silva answered as they laughed. âPeople hate you in Brazil. But Iâm not, I love you, man.â âI accept, thank you very much,â Sonnen said. Sonnen's outrageous and witty trash talk helped propel the Middleweight division, and thus the UFC, to new heights near the end of Silva's lengthy title reign. Throughout the saga, Sonnen's verbal jabs knew no bounds, famously going after Silva's home country of Brazil alongside his wife. Silva maintained his cool throughout the rivalry, with the exception of their rematch weigh-ins. Even after all these years, it's not surprising to see the kindness displayed among the UFC legends after all this time.
- UFC officially has a new super villain' in Khamzat Chimaev after UFC 279
Following his contentious behavior and astonishing victory at UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev is fast emerging as the organization's top villain according to UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping. The legend Nate Diaz was initially scheduled to face Chimaev in the pay-per-main view event this past weekend. But when it came time to weigh in, "Borz" went on to the scale and registered a surprising 7.5 pounds over the limit. Additionally, the UFC 279 press conference was canceled due to a backstage altercation between Kevin Holland and Chimaev that occurred before the PPV. Chaos resulted, and the fight card underwent a significant restructuring that saw the Swedish fighter of Chechen origin moved down to the co-main event position to meet Kevin Holland in a catchweight contest. The 28-year-old's attitude infuriated fans, but Chimaev Holland beef was later settled in the octagon. Chimaev didn't seem to be sorry for any of the things he did throughout the weekend as he received boos from the crowd at the weigh-ins when he entered the ring, and during his post-fight interview. He was unfazed and was able to dash through Holland. Chimaev told the fans he "didn't care" that he failed weight during his post-fight interview. Discussing the weekend's events and Khamzat Chimaev's performance on his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping stated that Khamzat was in dire need of the win after such a chaotic week. âChimaev needed that kind of performance,â Bisping said on his YouTube channel. âHe caused the press conference to be canceled, he didnât make weight, the entire card got a shakeup in terms of who they were fighting, and that was all down to Chimaev, right? âAnd if you go out there and you lose, or you go out there and have a boring fight, or you just scrape by a decision, itâs not the best look â certainly considering what you caused. The hassle, the stress, the expense, all of that, but it doesnât matter. That is eradicated because he went out there, and he destroyed Kevin Holland.â Bisping who is not a stranger to being a heel, says he likes Chimaev's new look. When the crowd reacted angrily, the unbeaten welterweight was unashamed about his missing weight and was giving them the middle finger. âThe UFC officially has a new supervillain,â Bisping said. âI am, of course, talking about Khamzat Chimaev, âBorz,â the âWolf.â Come on, when he walked out to that fight, the boos from the crowd were like nothing Iâve ever heard. I used to get booed a fair bit, as well, but that took the biscuit. That was mental.â He continued, âHe didnât give a sh*t, and then heâs flipping off the crowd, then heâs talking sh*t, and heâs talking about killing people left, right, and center. Listen, I absolutely love it. It brings a lot of controversy, it brings eyeballs, and itâs very, very polarizing. ⌠Heâs a legit bad guy. Heâs straight out of a Bond movie.â
- Former UFC fighter Elias Theodorou dies from cancer at 34
The Canadian native Elias Theodorou, a former UFC fighter and âTUF Nationsââ winner, passed away from cancer over the weekend, shocking the MMA world. Aaron Bronsteter, a reporter for TSN, reported that Theodorou had been identified as having stage 4 liver cancer. Theodorou hadnât publicly disclosed his illness preceding his death. Theodorou competed in 11 bouts in the UFC between 2014 and 2019. His rise to fame in the MMA world began when he defeated Sheldon Westcott to win the "TUF Nations." Later, he defeated notable opponents including Trevor Smith, Sam Alvey, Eryk Anders, and Cezar Ferreira. His three lone defeats in promotions occurred at the hands of opponents Thiago Santos, Brad Tavares, and Derek Brunson. Theodorou left the UFC in May 2019 following his defeat to Brunson. UFC President Dana White claimed that despite Theodorou's 8-3 UFC record, the decision to split ways was made because it was unlikely that Theodorou would rise to the status of a top-five fighter. Theodorou accepted his release gracefully and decided to rebuild himself to improve his success rate. Returning to the local comp, Theodorou went 3-0 and won his final fight against Bryan Baker by unanimous decision in a Colorado Combat event in December. As a professional fighter, Theodorou appeared on season three of "The Amazing Race Canada" in 2015 and worked as a "ring boy" for Invicta FC. Theodorou was best known for supporting the use of medical marijuana in combat sports, in addition to his career as a fighter. The British Columbia Athletic Commission granted a medicinal purpose authorization for medical cannabis to the Canadian veteran in 2020, making him the first fighter to do so. Fighters and supporters paid tribute to the Canadian veteran and The Ultimate Fighter: Nationâs champion soon after word of his passing spread. Dana White, the president of the UFC, paid tribute to Theodorou via Instagram story while numerous fighters expressed their grief in their tweets.
