- Historical Superfights
What if, and hear me out on this one. What if we could have historical superfights? With the speed technology is moving, it won't be too long before we can clone people like Bruce Lee, Miyamoto Musashi, Alexander The Great, and so on. What if in the future we clone ancient fighters from history to battle it out? Am I the only one who thinks we should use technology for this? I'm sure it's well worth the costs just imagine the fight cards and PPV sales. Bruce Lee versus John L Sullivan, we would get to watch Americas first bareknuckle boxing heavyweight champion fight Hong Kong's own Bruce Lee. It would be like watching the master of ancient chinese martial arts face off against the master of American bare knuckle boxing. Or we could watch Miyamoto Musashi VS Alexander The Great. Jiujitsu VS Wrestling. This would definitely be a fight worth watching. Spartacus VS Leonidas. The matchups are endless. Remember the show deadliest warrior? We could make that a reality. Okay so maybe cloning people to fight for sport isn't ethical. Maybe it's not financially smart. You can't say it wouldn't be cool though. Who would you pick for your biggest historical superfight?
- Best And Worst Positions In Jiujitsu
Jiujitsu is a highly competitive grappling sport and a staple for MMA. It's rare you'll find an MMA fighter who doesn't study Jiujitsu. Usually when you do it's somebody who has mastered wrestling or Sambo or some other type of grappling art that gives you a significant amount of grappling experience already. Many people have different opinions on what's the worst and best positions in Jiujitsu. Some people prefer guard while others prefer North-South, which both are very popular as is. I'm no expert and keep in mind much of this is just personal preference, but in my experience the best position is Side Control and the worst is Full Mount. The reason I say full mount is the worst is because all of your weight is centered in one area. Any good Jiujitsu practitioner knows that it's easy to reverse a full mount. Trap an arm, trap an ankle, extend your back and roll over to be on top of their guard. People like to go for the full mount because of it's ground-n-pound capabilities. I avoid it in Jiujitsu because of how easily you can be toppled over and reversed into a less dominant positon. Side control is mine and many others favorite positions to be in per grappling. Side control allows you to displace your weight across the ground while half your body is on top of your opponent. Successfully pinning them to the ground. It opens you up to a broad array of submissions. You can go for Americana, Key-locks, arm triangles, neck cranks, and so much more. Be sure to find which style of grappling suits you and what positions your most comfortable in. Let us know what you think. What is your most and least favorite positions in Jiujitsu or grappling?
- Ciryl Gane Disagrees with Dana White About Best Heavyweight
Ciryl Gane won the interim heavyweight belt lastnight defeating Derrick Lewis with a 3rd round KO. Dana White suggested that Ciyrl Gane is now the worlds best MMA heavyweight fighter. To which Ciryl responded - is just not the case. Gane significantly out striked Lewis at 98-16. Gane whil being a heavyweight, moved as if he were a featherweight in the bout against Lewis. This was Ganes 10th fight, and added onto his list of wins as a undefeated fighter. When he heard himself being donned the "Worlds Best Heavyweight." by Dana White. Ciryl responded with - "I don't want to say that becasue the champion is still Francis Ngannou, and I must fight all the guys on the roster to be the best. I just started, so I need to prove for a few years. And after that, maybe I'm gonna say "Yeah, I'm the best." - Said Gane. What do you think about Dana proclaiming this? Do you think he's right or does Ciryl really need to stick around and prove himself some more?
- Ciryl Gane Upsets Derrick Lewis
Ciryl Gane upset Derrick Lewis lastnight with a 3rd round KO. Derrick Lewis was the crowd favorite and the betting odds favorite against Ciryl. Nobody expected Derrick Lewis to get Ko'd, as a matter of fact everyone expected the opposite. Ciryl Gane is now 10-0, undefeated in the UFC. He is clearly on path to fight Francis Ngannou, the current UFC Heavyweight Champion. Ciryl is 10-0 and surprisingly has barely been fighting in the UFC for 3 years now. To have such a astounding record in such a short amount of time, speaks magnitudes. Everyone expected Derrick Lewis to KO Ciryl Gane and continue his legacy of heavy hitting power. Nobody expected Derrick Lewis to get KO'd. It almost felt like it wasn't real at first. I was even astounded to see this. We all really wanted to hear another funny Derrick Lewis post fight interview. I'm sure the French are happy and maybe Ciryl gives good post fight interviews but, most of us Americans don't speak french so we can only assume what he said was nice things about Derrick, and Ciryl's own training camp.
- Should Gable Stevenson Try MMA?
If you've been following the Olympics, then you know that Gable Stevenson just took Gold for U.S wrestling. People are already coming out of the woodwork to talk about him pursuing a career in combat sports. We all want to see what this guy would do in the UFC or Belator. Do good wrestler translate to good fighters? Often yes. Wrestling is a good testament of athleticism. The romans started wrestling in their Olympics because they found out if someone can control a fight grappling then to the ground, they're usually the one who will win without any rules in a fight. Gable is 21 years old, 6'1", and 260 pounds so we could be guaranteed he'll be competing at heavyweight if he joins the MMA world. There's also talk of him going into pro wrestling like Kurt Angle did after Olympic wrestling. Let's hope Gable chooses the real stuff. Regardless of what this young man chooses to do with his career, we can rest assured there will be fireworks just like he managed to do at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic games.
- Gi VS No Gi
The big question in Jiujitsu - Gi or no Gi? Well the answer just isn't that simple and it really boils down to what your agenda per training is. Do you want to compete? Do you want self defense for real life scenarios? Are you looking to just get some exercise? These are the questions to ask yourself, how you answer will determine what kind of grappling you should pursue. If you want to compete, it's best you learn both. Most jiujitsu gyms do both, even the old school BJJ fanatics are opening up to no Gi. The reason you'd want both as a competitor is because the Gi slows you down and makes you more technical, it improves your grip strength like no other. The no Gi system makes you much faster and teaches you to not rely on wrist holds and collar chokes. If you want to learn self defense, probably best to learn both. For the same reasons as a competitor but different application. The Gi will make you focus more on technique and grip strength which translates to winning a physical encounter on the street. The no Gi will prepare you for what grappling someone in blue jeans and a T-shirt is really like. If you just want some exercise, it really doesn't matter and just up to you at that point. You're gonna get cardio doing drills and rolling with your camp regardless. Just make sure you're in a good gym. Above all focus on finding the best gym. Make sure your training style fits in with your coaches philosophies, as they all teach differently.
- Bas Rutten O2 Trainer
Bas Rutten has a serious line of products that can help any athlete or aspiring fighter. His O2 Trainer, he claims has ridden him of his asthma. Others have claimed the product gave them the same results. So what is an O2 Trainer anyways? It's essentially an altitude mask or an apparatus that hinders the amount of air you breathe in. It forces your lungs to optimize the amount of oxygen they receive. Altitude masks simulate climbing a mountain at high altitudes with low levels of oxygen. Bas's O2 Trainer does the same thing, just a little differently. The entire package comes with different fittings for different O2 Trainer settings. It comes with a 30 day love it or your money back guarantee. Bas really stands by his products. This one is easy to use, just breathe through it while your working out or as Bas states, you can simply do breathing exercises with it. Out of it's 300+ reviews on Amazon, it's almost a 5 star product. Most customers ranting and raving over how well it has improved their breathing or cardio. The only negative review I found said the product changed their voice but, I feel like that's a little farfetched. This product really seems to work! !
- UFC's Reebok To Venum Deals
The UFC stopped fighters from showcasing their sponsors during their fight when they did a deal with Reebok. All fighters had to wear gear in their fight with solely Reebok logos. Which myself and many other combat sports fans and athletes didn't like. In hindsight, the Reebok deal hasn't been the better case for fighters as Dana White suggested it would be. It might help more with the more established fighters as the Reebok deal gave the UFC a chunk of change. Newer fighters still trying to make their career in MMA however, lost out on a lot of sponsors and royalties they could've had without the Reebok deal. The Reebok deal is about to end and the Venum deal is going to start. Venum is a smaller brand but their focus is entirely combat sports. We can only hope they'll understand fighters needs and allow them to keep their sponsors during their fights. We can only wait to see if this will be another broken promise like with Reebok, or if Venum will set the pace by establishing it's brand as a company that really loves it's fighters. What do you think? Will Venum wind up being a better deal than Reebok? Will it help fighters or hold them back?
- The History OF Everlast : A Boxing Legacy
Everlast is a brand centered around combat sports and primarily boxing. If you think of a punching bag or boxing gym, you're probably already envisioning their brand on everything. The company was founded in the Bronx in 1910. They sell everything combat sports related from training equipment to apparel. 17 year old Jacob Golomb started Everlast as a manufacturer of swimwear. He wanted their swim suits to last longer than the ones he was using at the time. With their guarantee the suits would last longer than a year, their brand was named - Everlast. In 11917 they started producing equipment for boxing. Jack Dempsey heard of their quality swimsuits and asked if they could make headgear that would last more than 15 rounds. Golomb passed away some 40 years later and was succeeded by his son Daniel, as the leader of Everlast. Daniel made moves to increase the size of their logo for brand recognition, making it visible on televised events. Everlast has gone through many equity sales and acquisitions to get where it is today. Everlast equipment is still made in America! Their factory located in Missouri. They've sponsored Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Joe Frazier to name a few. They're arguably the most iconic sporting brand on the market. Their quality is unparalleled.
- Mike Tyson Doesn't Want His Son To Box
On the most recent episode of Hotboxin With Mike Tyson. Mike reveals that his oldest son Amir, could do anything he wants to and live lavishly. Instead, Amir wants to follow in his dads footsteps to become a boxer. Which Mike actually opposes. "He wants to fight Logan Paul and those guys. I said - Just get a job, get a real estate license. Just chill out, man." "This fighting drives people to commit suicide. Getting humiliated in front of millions of people. You gotta be able to take that pressure and heat." Mike has had an amazing career from boxing, it's made him who he is. So for us to hear him tell his eldest son not to, really must say something. I'm sure those comments come from a deep place of understanding, where Mike worked really hard to make sure his son doesn't have to endure what Mike did. If Amir does start fighting like his dad did, we can only imagine he got some of those knockout power genetics. It might be like getting to watch Mike in his prime fight again. I for one, would love to see a prime Tyson fight the Paul brothers. I think everyone would enjoy that fight. We've seen the Paul bros fight retiring boxers. Maybe it's their turn to fight someone young and hungry to make a name for themselves.
- When George Foreman Repossessed Derrick Lewis's Car
Derrick Lewis faces Ciryl Gane this Saturday, August 7th. Before he became famous in the UFC for being an epic knockout artist and hilarious fighter in his post fight interviews. Derrick was an aspiring boxer, or at least tried it out with the intention of improving his striking in MMA. George Foreman took Derrick Lewis into his camp with open arms. Seeing that Lewis had obvious talent after watching him spar George's son. He got Derrick a car and was on the verge of getting him an apartment across the street from their gym. Derrick told George he preferred MMA, and didn't want to put all his focus on boxing. To which the boxing legend responded by repossessing the car. In hindsight, George says that was the best decision Derrick could have made. Derrick Lewis doesn't care. Today he's one of the biggest fighters in MMA and has a Lamborghini, a few steps above the domestic make Foreman had him driving. George Foreman is still one of Lewis's biggest supporters and fans, although he is still saddened that Derrick didn't follow in his footsteps. It's really interesting the more we learn about Derrick Lewis. The guy is an all around character and if it wasn't for combat sports we think he'd make a great comedian. We look forward to watching him fight Ciryl Gane this week! There's lots of memes going around, prodding that although Gane is the more technical and trained fighter, Derrick will still probably knock him out.
- UFC Fighters And Vaccines
This pandemic really has the nation on a massive split between everyone should wear masks and be vaccinated or - everyone should have the freedom to live how they want. There's solid arguments for both sides and it seems even UFC fighters are split between the decisions. UFC's Dana White says fighters will not be forced to get Covid vaccines. The promotion has a Nov 6 event in New York. A state that mandates vaccinations for any indoor events and even now requiring vaccine passports to eat in restaurants. "If you want to get vaccinated, that's up to you. That's your choice. You're never going to hear me say I'm going to force people to get vaccinated. Never gonna happen." - said Dana White. Michael Chandler went down as saying - “It’s not that I’m anti-vax. It’s not that I don’t believe in the vaccine, necessarily. I’m just not going to get the vaccine until it’s 100 percent FDA approved. We’ve had hundreds of clinical trials, just like we had the vaccines that my son has had – measles and chicken pox and all of the vaccines that have been around for 100 years that have been proven. We shall see. I don’t know what’s going to happen. More than anything, the chances of the UFC being able to sell out Madison Square Garden with only people that are vaccinated really cuts down their ability to sell out Madison Square Garden. So I don’t really know. I think it calls into question if Madison Square Garden will actually happen, to be honest with you guys. The UFC is brilliant and geniuses at putting things together and putting their fights together. But as I said, I’m not anti-vaccine. I think vaccines are effective. I think it’s everybody’s choice whether they want to take the vaccine. I won’t be vaccinated by Nov. 6, so I won’t be able to perform or entertain at Madison Square Garden. So we shall see.” So we can't really lump fighters or promoters into any category here. Some are pro, some are anti, some are just on the fence. All we can do is hope this pandemic ends soon and we can all get back to "the old normal."
