David Higgins, the promoter of Joseph Parker, claims that his fighter has the edge in speed and skills over Deontay Wilder and can shock him with a knockout victory.
Parker will face Wilder on a huge heavyweight night in Saudi Arabia, which also includes Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin on December 23. Wilder is known as the most fearsome puncher in the division, but Higgins believes that Parker can pull off a stunning upset after his impressive stoppage of Simon Kean last month. “Joseph Parker was outstanding,” Higgins told Sky Sports.
"He was explosive and powerful. He knocked out Simon Kean, who was a big man, with an uppercut. He has won three times this year and Deontay Wilder will be the fourth. We are happy with the momentum that Joseph has going into this huge opportunity in Saudi Arabia.
"Any heavyweight can knock out another heavyweight. Joseph has more than 20 knockouts on his record. Wilder has a massive punch, one of the biggest ever, but Joseph has some advantages. He is a better boxer, he is faster. It is foolish to count anyone out.
“Joseph and Wilder were both world champions. Wilder has a massive punch, but apart from that, he is not as well-rounded as Joseph. Joseph Parker can win this fight, if he shows his best form and we see the best Joseph Parker on the night.”
“Yes I do [think Parker can stop Wilder]. He dropped Chisora a few times with the uppercut. It is all about landing a well-timed punch. He can definitely knock out Deontay Wilder.”
Parker lost his WBO title to Joshua on points in 2018, but the 31-year-old still wants to face the British star again in a rematch.
“Winning will put him right back at the top of the discussion,” said Higgins.
“He could legitimately ask for a rematch with Anthony Joshua for example, but also fight for a world title in 2024.”
