Virna Jandiroba knows that an impressive finish can catch the UFC's attention. With her sights set on a title shot, Jandiroba is determined to make a statement against former title challenger Amanda Lemos.
Headlining her second UFC main card, Jandiroba (20-3) will face Lemos (14-3-1) at UFC Fight Night this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. A win, especially a finish, could propel Jandiroba closer to a shot at the gold.
"In the UFC, we know a finish is always better than a decision – they like that," Jandiroba shared with MMA Junkie Radio through an interpreter. "If I can finish Amanda Lemos, I'll be much closer to a title fight than if I win by decision."
Jandiroba is on a hot streak, having secured three consecutive unanimous decision victories against Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, and Lupita Godinez. While these wins are impressive, Jandiroba understands that finishes are what truly captivates the UFC brass.
Lemos ranked No. 3 in the UFC women's strawweight division, presents a significant challenge. She had her first title shot at UFC 292 but lost to Zhang Weili. A victory over Lemos, especially a finish, would be a huge leap forward for Jandiroba, who sits at No. 5 in the rankings.
Jandiroba has three stoppages in her UFC career, showcasing her submission prowess by tapping out Mallory Martin and Felice Herrig. Her third finish came via an arm injury TKO against Kanako Murata. After a setback against Amanda Ribas at UFC 267, Jandiroba bounced back with three straight wins, attributing her success to mental and behavioral adjustments.
"I think the biggest thing is more of a mental adjustment and a behavior adjustment more than anything fight-related," Jandiroba explained. "Once I got over a few hurdles mentally and behaviorally, things started to click a lot more."
With both fighters hungry for a title shot, this matchup promises to be a thrilling battle. Jandiroba's determination to secure a finish and climb the ranks adds an extra layer of excitement for fans tuning in.
