Brazilian MMA star Victoria Souza is set for the biggest fight of her career against Japanese contender Itsuki Hirata on June 7 at ONE 167: Tawanchai vs. Nattawut II. This anticipated atomweight clash will take place in U.S. primetime from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Souza, who dominated the Brazilian MMA scene with an undefeated record, has faced challenges in ONE Championship, holding a 1-2 record. Hirata, on the other hand, is also looking to rebound after back-to-back losses to former ONE World Title challengers Ham Seo Hee and Ayaka Miura.
Aware of the high stakes, Souza is preparing for a tough battle. She recently discussed the upcoming matchup, highlighting Hirata's strengths and her own preparations:
“Itsuki Hirata is a high-level athlete with a lot of experience in ONE. She has an excellent game in both striking and grappling. In whatever area the fight develops, she will be a difficult opponent, and this makes her very dangerous.”
Hirata, known for her judo and improving striking, is a formidable opponent. However, Souza and her team at Double Attack have analyzed Hirata’s weaknesses and plan to exploit them on June 7. Despite keeping her strategy under wraps, Souza emphasized her confidence in her abilities.
Souza aims to secure a finish at ONE 167, adding to her impressive record of five stoppages in seven wins. She expects a competitive fight but believes her preparation and strategy will lead her to victory:
“I believe it will be a very close fight, and whoever makes the least mistakes will win. The details and strategies will define the winner. I have a lot of confidence in the work that my team and I are doing.”
