Excitement is building for ADXC 5, set to take place on August 2 in Abu Dhabi, where a trio of UFC veterans will showcase their skills just a day before the octagon arrives in the United Arab Emirates for UFC's Fight Night. The event promises to be a spectacular display of martial arts prowess, with Urijah Faber and Bibiano Fernandes set to co-headline in a no-gi grappling match.
Urijah Faber, the former WEC champion and MMA legend, will bring his exceptional grappling talents to the forefront as he takes on Bibiano Fernandes. Faber, affectionately known as "The California Kid," recently showcased his submission skills by tapping Jeff Glover in a combat jiu-jitsu match at his promotion, A1 Combat, in May. With 19 of his 35 MMA victories coming via submission, Faber's reputation as a submission specialist is well-earned.
His opponent, Bibiano Fernandes, boasts an impressive career with multiple titles in ONE Championship and Dream. Fernandes, who started his MMA journey with a 1-0 record, has amassed 24 professional victories, nine of which were achieved through submission. This highly anticipated rematch with Faber comes 18 years after their initial encounter at King of the Cage, where Faber secured a victory via doctor stoppage.
The co-main event of ADXC 5 will see Chad Mendes, a multiple-time UFC featherweight title challenger, face off against former UFC lightweight contender Kevin Lee. Mendes has remained active in the combat sports world, competing in grappling and bare-knuckle boxing since his final UFC appearance in 2018. His recent endeavors include a draw in a grappling match against Gesias Cavalcante and a split-decision loss to Eddie Alvarez in BKFC.
Kevin Lee, known for his submission prowess, has tapped notable fighters like Michael Chiesa and Francisco Trinaldo during his UFC career. Although Lee faced a setback in his UFC return in July 2023, losing to Rinat Fakhretdinov, his grappling skills remain formidable.
Adding to the excitement, the gi portion of ADXC 5 will feature Rayron Gracie, the son of the late Ryan Gracie, against Marcos Carrozzino. The co-main event for the Gi matches will pit Pedro Ramalho against Max Lindblad.
