UFC featherweight Steve Garcia is on a hot streak, winning four consecutive fights by knockout. His latest victim, Seung Woo Choi (11-7), fell in the first round at UFC Fight Night, solidifying Garcia’s (16-5) record for the longest TKO/KO streak in the UFC.
Garcia’s impressive run includes stoppages of Chase Hooper, Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, and Melquizael Costa. Now, "Mean Machine" has his eyes set on a new challenge: Dan Ige (18-8).
“I called him out because he was actually supposed to headline this card, I believe,” Garcia said at the post-fight news conference. “When his fight fell through, I raised my hand. I was like, ‘Hey man, I’ll take it.’ I responded to his message. I don’t know if he took that, laughed it off, shrugged it off – I don’t know. He doesn’t seem like a disrespectful dude, but I obviously didn’t have that opportunity. It didn’t even matter because he stepped up to fight Diego Lopes, which shows what kind of gangster he is, like 100 percent."
Garcia praised Ige for his willingness to fight on short notice, highlighting Ige’s fight against Diego Lopes at UFC 303. This respect only fuels Garcia’s desire to face Ige in the octagon.
“I think that would be a fun fight. I think the fans would love that fight. He brings it, I bring it. That’s fireworks in the making. I’m just helping the matchmaker out.”
Garcia is hopeful for this showdown to take place at Noche UFC, scheduled for September 14 at Sphere in Las Vegas. Ige has already been promised a spot on the card after his last-minute fight at UFC 303. If the matchmakers agree, Garcia might get his wish and deliver another electrifying performance.
With his record-setting streak and a potential high-stakes bout against Ige, Steve Garcia continues to capture the attention of the UFC world.
