UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is thrilled by UFC President Dana White’s commitment to entering the boxing world. White, who has been vocal for years about wanting to break into the sport, made his boldest statement yet about launching a boxing promotion. Though White stated that UFC fighters would not be crossing over to boxing, Pereira believes he could be the first exception.

Pereira, with an impressive record of 11-2 in MMA and 8-1 in the UFC, has a strong foundation in striking sports. As a former two-division Glory Kickboxing champion, he’s no stranger to world-class competition. He also has a taste of boxing experience, having fought professionally once in June 2017, where he secured a third-round TKO victory over Marcelo de Souza Cruz.

Reflecting on Dana White’s new endeavor, Pereira shared his excitement in an interview,

“Honestly, man, I feel very good about this,” Pereira told Kevin Iole through an interpreter. “I like boxing. I’ve wanted to fight in boxing for a while. I’m actually going to release, in the next few days, video footage of me sparring the best heavyweight boxer in Brazil. It’s a few years ago, the video, but now I’ve gotten much better in the game. Dana White made the announcement, and to be honest, nothing was spoken of between us and the organization. But I feel the partnership will start with me.”

As he eyes a potential boxing future, Pereira is currently preparing for his next UFC bout. He’s set to defend his light heavyweight title for the third time against Khalil Rountree in the main event of UFC 307, taking place Saturday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Fans eagerly await to see if Pereira can dominate in MMA while keeping his sights set on a future in boxing.
