Tony Ferguson, a former UFC interim lightweight champion, isn’t ready to leave the octagon despite his recent struggles. Known as "El Cucuy," Ferguson has endured an eight-fight losing streak and hasn’t secured a win since 2020. Most recently, he faced a tough defeat against Michael Chiesa at UFC Abu Dhabi in August, where he left one glove in the ring, hinting at retirement. However, that idea didn’t stick.

“I only put half the f*cking glove in there, and I got it back, so that just tells me I’ve got both pairs of gloves,” Ferguson said in an interview with Demetrious Johnson on YouTube.

This statement reassured fans that Ferguson intends to return in 2025.

"We’re going to probably take the rest of this season, figure things out hard, and we’re coming back either January or February. Stay tuned.”

Despite his recent losses, Ferguson is determined to keep fighting. At 40 years old, he doesn’t see age as a barrier to continuing his UFC career.

“F*ck no I’m not retiring,” Ferguson said firmly. “I’m too old to retire. I’m halfway to 80, I’ve been competing since I was five years old… and you know what? It’s not like I don’t know anything else. I do. I’m still able to compete.”

Ferguson believes the key to success moving forward lies in surrounding himself with the right coaching and maintaining discipline during training. While his next opponent hasn’t been decided, Ferguson plans to call UFC CEO Dana White to figure out his next steps. He’s in no rush but remains confident.

“I make the phone call to Dana and tell him, ‘Look, I’m looking for a fight,’ and then they give me one.”
