The highly anticipated trilogy between Alexis Nicolas and Regian Eersel has taken an unexpected turn ahead of ONE Fight Night 30. Originally slated to be a title bout for Eersel’s ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Championship, the dynamics changed when Eersel failed to make weight on Thursday, resulting in him being stripped of the title.
Despite Eersel’s weight miss, ONE Championship's rules allow Nicolas to keep the title up for grabs. If the French striker wins in their third encounter on Friday, April 4, at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, he will walk away as the new lightweight kickboxing king.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, and Nicolas is embracing the pressure. He recognizes Eersel’s elite status but believes this clash will be a defining moment for both men.
“Eersel’s a very good fighter. Everybody says and knows that Eersel’s a legend. I’m starting to become a legend, too. So, now, this fight should be legendary,” Nicolas said.
“Our two fights were crazy, maybe the best of 2024. It’s always a pleasure to give this kind of fight for the fans.”
This marks the third chapter in what has become one of ONE Championship’s most exciting rivalries. The first two contests were action-packed, and Nicolas believes this rubber match will once again deliver fireworks.
For Nicolas, however, it’s not personal—it’s strictly business. The 27-year-old has immense respect for his opponent but remains laser-focused on claiming the vacant championship.
“I have nothing against Eersel. He’s in my way, and I just want to take the belt,” he stated.
“I just want the belt. I’m ready for five rounds against him, but I’m ready to put him out, too.”
With one fighter disqualified from title contention and the other aiming for redemption, ONE Fight Night 30 promises to deliver a dramatic conclusion to this high-stakes rivalry.
