Thiago Alves, the former BKFC middleweight champion, found himself unexpectedly drawn back into the ring after what seemed like the end of his fighting career. The Brazilian veteran, now 40, had shifted his focus to coaching at American Top Team in Florida, believing his days as a fighter were over. However, an enticing offer from BKFC, coupled with the allure of a big payday and a chance to face Mike Perry at KnuckleMania IV, reignited Alves' competitive spirit.
"I wasn't planning on fighting anymore," Alves admitted. "But BKFC literally called me... and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It's like, alright, I guess it's time to get back in there!"
Alves had quietly stepped away from active competition, content with his coaching role and other endeavors. Yet, the prospect of facing Perry, coupled with a lucrative offer, proved too tempting to resist.
"Money talks," Alves remarked, emphasizing the importance of staying open to opportunities in the fight game.
Despite his initial retirement mindset, Alves is no stranger to the BKFC ring. With two bare-knuckle fights under his belt, he brings a wealth of experience to the upcoming showdown with Perry.
"I'm battle-tested," Alves affirmed. "I know what it takes to win... I'm excited to show what the 'King of Violence' looks like."
The matchup with Perry holds personal significance for Alves, who was previously scheduled to face him in the UFC back in 2017. Though circumstances prevented the bout from happening, Alves now sees this BKFC clash as a chance to settle unfinished business.
Confident in his striking prowess, Alves predicts a decisive victory over Perry.
"I think I'm just a better striker overall," he asserted. "We're going to crash the party... I'm going to put him away in the fourth round."
As Alves prepares to step back into the spotlight, fight fans eagerly await the outcome of this long-awaited showdown between two seasoned warriors in the world of bare-knuckle fighting.
