Terence Crawford knew he was in for a tough fight against Israil Madrimov, but he still got the job done in a closely contested battle to become a four-weight world champion. Crawford (40-0) competed at 154 pounds for the first time in his career, moving up to challenge Madrimov (10-0-1) for the WBA and interim WBO super welterweight titles. The fight took place at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. After 12 rounds, Crawford won unanimously, with scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.

The buildup to the main event was lengthy, featuring an Eminem concert that heightened the anticipation. The fighter ring walks included an array of pyrotechnics, creating a grand spectacle. The first round's bell sounded, and the fight commenced with both fighters studying each other’s movements.

Crawford, often described as a slow starter, struggled initially to find the rhythm against Madrimov, who showcased constant, bouncy, jerky movements. The rounds saw moments of brilliance from both fighters, but few rounds were decisively won by either, leading to differing opinions from the commentary team.

Madrimov, with less professional experience than Crawford, held his own throughout the fight. Late into the match, the punching stats were nearly identical, with Madrimov having a slightly higher landing percentage, though Crawford arguably landed more effectively.

The final two rounds were particularly intense, with Crawford increasing his pressure and letting his hands go, while Madrimov continued to advance until the final bell.

“Israil was a tough competitor,” Crawford said during his post-fight interview. “I knew he was going to be tough, like I said. I knew all about him when I went to Uzbekistan and they was telling me so much about him. He’s real strong. He’s durable. He took a lot of good shots. He got me to Round 12."

Crawford has now achieved the remarkable feat of becoming a boxing champion in four weight classes: 135, 140, 147, and 154 pounds. While many believe Crawford may face Canelo Alvarez next, he stated that while it would be a significant fight for his legacy, it isn’t a must-have on his resume.

Madrimov felt he did enough to win the fight and expressed interest in a rematch with Crawford. Whether this rematch happens remains to be seen, but fight fans are already buzzing with excitement at the prospect.
