Shara Magomedov’s wish to compete at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi has been granted, although not with the opponent he initially targeted. UFC officials confirmed on Monday that Magomedov (14-0) will face Armen Petrosyan (9-3) in a middleweight clash on October 26 at Etihad Arena.

Magomedov, who remains unbeaten in his professional MMA career, had called out Nick Diaz following his impressive victory over Michal Oleksiejczuk in August. This fight earned him a Fight of the Night bonus. Despite his desire to face the Stockton legend, the UFC has matched him against Petrosyan, a fighter known for his striking prowess but looking to bounce back from a tough loss.

Petrosyan enters the bout following a first-round submission defeat to Rodolfo Vieira in February. This loss halted the momentum Petrosyan had built with consecutive wins over A.J. Dobson and Christian Leroy Duncan. The Armenian fighter faces a formidable challenge in Magomedov, whose aggressive style and undefeated record make him a rising star in the UFC’s middleweight division.

The matchup adds another intriguing layer to the UFC 308 card, which already boasts a lineup filled with high-stakes fights. The event is headlined by a featherweight title bout between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. Other marquee matchups include Khamzat Chimaev taking on former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, Ciryl Gane squaring off against Alexander Volkov, and Magomed Ankalaev facing Aleksandar Rakic in a light heavyweight showdown.

With a stacked card and the inclusion of Magomedov vs. Petrosyan, UFC 308 is shaping up to be a must-watch event for MMA fans. As Magomedov aims to extend his perfect record, Petrosyan will be looking to prove he can compete with the division’s elite and get back into the win column.
