Sean Strickland, the new UFC middleweight champion, has one simple demand for his next fight: he wants to make some real money. The American fighter stunned the MMA world when he defeated Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 293 in Australia earlier this summer. Strickland, who was a huge underdog, knocked down Adesanya in the first round and dominated him for five rounds to claim the title.
After the fight, UFC president Dana White suggested that Adesanya would get an immediate rematch, as he had been a dominant champion before losing to Strickland. However, White later changed his mind and said that Strickland’s next opponent was not decided yet.
Strickland, who is on a three-fight winning streak, said that he does not care who he fights next, as long as it is someone who can bring him a lot of pay-per-view revenue. He said that he would prefer to fight Adesanya again, as he thinks that the former champion would take the rematch more seriously and put up a better fight. However, he also said that he is open to any other challenger who can make him rich.
“Izzy would be better, I’m sure they might give him a rematch,” Strickland said to Chris Curtis on his YouTube channel. “He might take it a little bit more serious, and put up a better fight… My thing is when it comes to my next fight, everyone’s like ‘Who do you want to fight?’, I don’t give a f*ck.”
He added, “I want to make fcking money, I get those pay-per-view points. Give me somebody who’s going to make me fcking money. I don’t want anything boring, give me someone who’s making money.”
