Sean O Malley Embarks on Social Media Detox to “Level Up” for UFC Comeback
Sean O'Malley

Sean O Malley is taking a bold step to eliminate distractions as he works to reclaim his spot atop the UFC bantamweight division. Following his title loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 in September, O’Malley underwent surgery for a torn labrum in his hip. Now, he is setting his sights on an early 2025 return, with a renewed focus on self-improvement.

As part of his preparation, O’Malley has decided to detox from social media entirely, entrusting his team to manage his accounts. Discussing his decision on the TimboSugaShow podcast, O’Malley explained how stepping away from the digital realm has already had a profound effect.

“I said I was going to start in 2025, but it’s been like two or three days, and I already feel more disconnected from the internet universe,” O’Malley shared. “Even just three days or whatever it’s been, I already feel like – the original reason, and I don’t know how to articulate this yet, but I feel like my higher self is trying to tell me something.”

O’Malley believes removing social media distractions will allow him to tap into deeper personal growth, adding that he’s already spending more time reading and writing.

“I feel like it’s already been good. 2025 is going to be exciting. I’m not going to be on social until my next fight (is over), but ideally, I can just keep that going,” he stated.

While recovering and preparing for his return, O’Malley is closely watching the division he once ruled. With Merab Dvalishvili set to defend his title against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 in January, O’Malley is using this time to refine his skills and adapt to the challenges posed by elite grapplers.

“I feel like I need to level up – especially to beat Umar, to beat Merab, to beat whoever’s next,” O’Malley said. “To beat these top guys in the world, you’ve got to just be doing everything right, and I feel like I am.”

For O’Malley, this social media cleanse marks a critical part of his journey to regain UFC gold and prove himself among the best.
