UFC Fight Night 242 delivered an intense, action-packed battle in the welterweight division, where Sean Brady showcased his dominance over former title challenger Gilbert Burns. The five-round contest ended with Brady securing a unanimous decision victory, cementing his place among the elite fighters in the UFC.

From the opening bell, Brady (17-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) displayed an aggressive game plan. His strategy was clear: close the distance and keep Burns (22-8 MMA, 15-8 UFC) pressed against the cage. Although Burns resisted Brady’s takedown attempts and managed to land some solid strikes in the third round, Brady's resilience paid off. His relentless pressure eventually led to a successful takedown, a pivotal moment that shifted the momentum in Brady’s favor.

Rounds four and five saw the fighters battling through a series of timeouts caused by illegal groin shots. Despite the interruptions, Brady remained focused on his grinding game plan. Burns countered with muay Thai strikes, but Brady's grappling skills kept him in control. As the fight progressed, Brady's dominance grew, securing 14 of the 15 round scorecards from the judges.

The final round was a nail-biter. Burns attempted a flying knee, but Brady caught him and executed another takedown, finishing the fight in full control. With this victory, Brady earned his most significant win to date and solidified his claim to a potential top-five opponent or a showdown with rising star Ian Machado Garry.

For Gilbert Burns, the loss marked his third consecutive defeat. The 38-year-old has now lost to Belal Muhammad, Jack Della Maddalena, and Sean Brady, marking the longest losing streak of his career.
