UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady (17-1) is riding high after a dominant performance against former title challenger Gilbert Burns (22-8) at UFC Fight Night last weekend. The unanimous decision win solidified Brady's place among the elite in the welterweight division, and he's now eyeing his next opponent. With a top ranking likely coming his way on Tuesday, Brady wasted no time calling out two names that would make for thrilling matchups: undefeated up-and-comer Ian Garry and former interim champion Colby Covington.
“I’d like to fight Ian – he’s an up-and-comer. I’m a little bit older than him, but I want to be here for a long time. He’s undefeated and he’s got some hype. Before, he said that he won’t fight guys ranked behind him, but I’ll be ranked ahead of him on Tuesday with that No. 6 spot. So yeah, maybe I’ll let him fight me. We’ll see how that goes.”
Brady’s challenge to Ian Garry is particularly intriguing. Garry, currently undefeated at 13-0, has quickly gained attention with his flashy striking and confident persona. However, while Garry has been impressive, he has yet to face a top-ranked UFC contender. A fight against Brady would be a significant step up for Garry, testing his skills against an opponent who has already proven himself against some of the division’s toughest fighters.
But Brady didn’t stop at Garry. He also had strong words for Colby Covington, one of the most polarizing figures in the UFC. “I’ll fight him. I’ll fight Colby. I think Colby is the easiest matchup in the division. I’ll piece him up on the feet. I’ll ragdoll him,” Brady boldly claimed.
Covington (17-4) has lost three of his last five bouts, all in title shots against Kamaru Usman (twice) and Leon Edwards. While Covington remains one of the division’s top contenders, Brady seems confident he can exploit the former interim champ’s weaknesses and add a signature win to his resume.
As Brady continues his rise in the welterweight ranks, fans are left wondering which fight will come next. Will it be the undefeated Ian Garry, looking to make a statement and break Ian's undefeated streak? Or will Brady get his shot at Covington, a proven name who remains a threat despite recent setbacks? Either way, the stakes are high, and the welterweight division is on notice.
