Ryan Garcia, one of boxing’s most captivating figures, is making his much-anticipated return to the ring. The former lightweight contender, currently serving a suspension due to a failed drug test, is stepping back into the spotlight in an exhibition match against former kickboxing champion Rukiya Anpo. The event is scheduled for December 30 in Tokyo, Japan, as part of the RIZIN Fighting Federation’s year-end spectacle.
Garcia’s last fight ended in controversy after he tested positive for Ostarine following his April victory over Devin Haney, which was overturned to a no-contest. Alongside a one-year suspension, Garcia was fined $1.1 million. Yet, this hasn’t dimmed his confidence or hunger to prove himself.
“I’m looking forward to knocking Anpo out for trying to knock out the legend Manny Pacquiao,” said Garcia in a statement. “Manny is past his prime, and for him to try to knock him out rubbed me the wrong way. I will knock him out and teach him a lesson of respect.”
Anpo, a former kickboxing champion, enters the ring with momentum from his recent exhibition against Pacquiao in July, which ended in a draw. His striking skills and resilience make him a formidable opponent, setting the stage for a thrilling clash.
The bout is set at a catchweight of 153 pounds and will consist of eight two-minute rounds. Fans eager to witness this showdown can tune in live on Fanmio Pay-Per-View at 9 p.m. ET.
As the fight draws closer, all eyes are on Garcia to see if he can re-establish his reputation or if Anpo will deliver an upset. Either way, this highly-anticipated match promises fireworks to close out the year.
