One of the most thrilling UFC fighters is Rose Namajunas. She had a brief but interesting reign as the strawweight champion. She recently shared her story on the Ariel Helwani-hosted MMA Hour podcast. She discussed how she needed to retire following her controversial defeat against Carla Esparaza, which cost her the championship.
Namajunas got candid with Helwani about how certain factors in her life almost made her retire. She said, “Yeah, I definitely thought I was done for a good amount of time. There were a number of things, but the way I felt going into the locker room. I just didn’t feel aggressive and I don’t really want to hurt anybody.”
Namajunas also discussed the decision's spiritual origins. She thinks it was a spiritual problem that made her wonder if she wanted to go on. Additionally, she mentioned how it didn't exactly match with "leading a godly life". She only returned because she felt that fighting was her vocation. The former strawweight champion also discussed "warrior spirit".
"Thug" is scheduled to make a comeback at UFC Paris following the loss of her flyweight championship to take on Manon Fiorot. In the UFC, Namajunas is well-known for his charisma.
