Robbie Lawler Secures His Place in UFC Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing

During the UFC 313 broadcast in Las Vegas, the 42-year-old former champion was announced as the latest inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing. This marks his second induction into the prestigious Hall, as he was previously honored in 2023 for his legendary battle against Rory MacDonald at UFC 189. Given his impact on the sport, Lawler’s solo induction was only a matter of time.

Nicknamed "Ruthless" for a reason, Lawler carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting fighters in MMA history. He first made waves in the UFC in the early 2000s, showcasing an aggressive, fan-friendly style before competing in other promotions like Strikeforce and EliteXC. But his return to the UFC in 2013 set the stage for one of the most electrifying championship runs in welterweight history.

Lawler's rise to gold saw him defeat top contenders like Josh Koscheck, Bobby Voelker, and Rory MacDonald. His first title opportunity came against Johny Hendricks at UFC 171, where he fell short in a razor-close decision. However, he returned to claim the belt in their rematch at UFC 181. He successfully defended the title twice, engaging in wars that have become etched in UFC lore, including his rematch with MacDonald and his battle with Carlos Condit at UFC 195.

Over his UFC tenure, Lawler earned five Fight of the Night bonuses, delivering unforgettable moments inside the Octagon. He retired in July 2023 with a professional record of 30-16 (1 NC), closing his career spectacularly with a blistering 38-second knockout of Niko Price at UFC 290.

The UFC Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on June 28 at T-Mobile Arena as part of International Fight Week. Also set to be honored are producer Craig Piligian (Contributor Wing) and the UFC 236 title clash between Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum (Fight Wing).

With his induction, Lawler joins an elite group of legends, including Frankie Edgar, Jose Aldo, Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Georges St-Pierre, and Ronda Rousey. A true warrior of the sport, Lawler’s name will forever be associated with some of the greatest fights in UFC history.
