The son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, Ali Kadyrov, won his MMA debut in disputed circumstances.
At ACA 150 earlier today (Dec. 23), Ali Kadyrov fought debutant Islam Akbarov. The battle was fought at lightweight, with Khamzat Chimaev, a UFC fighter, cornering Kadyrov.
By the time the first round had reached its midpoint, Kadyrov had complete control of Akbarov and was pounding him. Akbarov managed to escape, but Kadyrov followed closely behind and continued to pelt Akbarov with punches from above until the referee stopped the fight.
Although the 16-year-old Kadyrov was ecstatic, many people thought the halt was dubious at best and inevitable given the opponent.
With a winning start to his career, it will be intriguing to watch how Kadyrov performs in his upcoming matches and whether the results cause as much controversy as this debut. In either case, Ramzan Kadyrov and MMA fans alike will be paying careful attention.
