Plant Unimpressed with Charlo's Return Win, Calls for fight

After a hiatus of two and a half years from the ring, Jermall Charlo made a successful return, believing himself mentally and physically prepared for the challenge. Despite some ring rust, Charlo secured a unanimous decision victory against Jose Benavidez Jr., who attempted to pull off an upset but faced the natural size and strength advantage of Charlo.

Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) expressed satisfaction with his performance, signaling his eagerness to move on to more significant challenges. Caleb Plant, a potential opponent on Charlo's radar, is patiently awaiting the call for a potential showdown.

While acknowledging Charlo's victory, Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) was less impressed, attributing the win to Charlo facing a smaller opponent. In an interview with, Plant remarked,

“It wasn’t nothing spectacular. He's in there against a smaller guy. It’s not like I was super impressed.”

The tension between Charlo and Plant escalated a few months ago when a backstage altercation occurred, captured on various videos showing Plant slapping Charlo across the face. Plant has been vocal about his desire to face Charlo next, asserting that a victory over Charlo would secure a rematch with David Benavidez.

Despite expressing disdain for Charlo, labeling him disingenuous and phony, Plant admitted to rooting for Charlo in his comeback bout. With Charlo securing the win, Plant believes there should be no obstacles preventing their anticipated showdown.

“I’m glad he won. That’s who I wanted to win so we can make the fight happen.”

The prospect of a clash between Charlo and Plant now looms, adding intrigue to the unfolding narrative in the world of professional boxing.
