After a challenging 17 months with just one fight, former UFC champion Petr Yan is eager to re-establish his dominance in the octagon. The Russian bantamweight, known for his ferocious style, is setting his sights on a return at UFC 310 in December 2024.
Yan (17-5) recently broke a three-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong at UFC 299 in March. However, his momentum was halted by a torn ACL and meniscus, sidelining him for months as he underwent surgery and recovery. Now fully recovered and ready to start a training camp, Yan is calling for a spot on the year’s final pay-per-view card, scheduled for December 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Yan announced via X, making his intentions clear.
“I want to fight on the last PPV card of the year,”
Currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC bantamweight rankings, Yan has his eyes on a particular opponent for his comeback—No. 5-ranked Deiveson Figueiredo. The Brazilian fighter, a former multi-time flyweight champion, has been on a tear since moving up to the 135-pound division, boasting a 3-0 record. Yan believes a matchup against Figueiredo (24-3-1) would be the perfect test as he aims to climb back to the top of the division.
The timing seems ideal for both fighters, as most of the contenders between them are either already booked, recovering from losses, or on different paths. A bout between Yan and Figueiredo would not only draw significant attention but also provide a clear path toward title contention for the winner.
As the year draws to a close, fight fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of this potential showdown, which could serve as one of the highlights of UFC 310.
