Petr Yan delivered a stellar performance at UFC Macau, securing a unanimous decision victory over Deiveson Figueiredo in a captivating five-round main event. This victory has reignited Yan's pursuit of the bantamweight title, and he wasted no time calling out reigning champion Merab Dvalishvili for a rematch.
Yan showcased his grit and technical prowess against the former UFC flyweight champion, who entered the fight unbeaten in the bantamweight division. Despite all three judges scoring the bout 50-45 in favor of Yan, the match was far from one-sided, with multiple rounds featuring intense exchanges and tactical brilliance.
The fight began with Figueiredo securing a takedown in Round 1, but Yan quickly reversed the position, landing hammerfists and elbows. In Round 2, Yan found his rhythm, using body kicks and a precise foot sweep to put Figueiredo on the mat. As the fight progressed, Yan's striking superiority became evident. A powerful uppercut in Round 3 knocked Figueiredo down, leading to a ground-and-pound assault. Although Figueiredo managed to recover and continue, the momentum shifted in Yan's favor.
Round 4 was a display of resilience from both fighters. Yan landed a series of damaging shots, including a left uppercut that knocked out Figueiredo's mouthpiece. However, Figueiredo responded with a knockdown of his own, showcasing his heart and determination.
Heading into the fifth round, Figueiredo's corner urged him to go for the finish, but Yan landed the cleaner strikes, dominating the final moments. The two former champions exchanged punches until the final bell, with Yan emerging victorious on the scorecards.
After the fight, Figueiredo graciously congratulated Yan and promised to return stronger.
“Hats off to Petr Yan. Today was his day,” Figueiredo said in the octagon. “I always come back better.”
For Yan, the victory marked his second consecutive win, following a decision victory over Song Yadong. With this success, Yan has firmly positioned himself as a top contender in the bantamweight division and is eager for a title shot.
“Merab, let’s go,” Yan declared.
