Patricky Pitbull Joins GFL: A New Chapter for the Former Bellator Champion

Former Bellator lightweight champion Patricky "Pitbull" Freire has officially signed with the Global Fight League (GFL), signaling a new chapter in his storied MMA career. MMA Fighting confirmed the move, which aligns with the GFL’s draft for its 2025 season scheduled for Friday night.

Pitbull, a seasoned competitor with a record of 25-14, has had an illustrious journey in the sport. During his tenure with Bellator, he amassed several accolades, including holding the record for the most knockouts (11) in the promotion’s history. Over his 16-10 Bellator run, Pitbull delivered memorable victories against notable names like Ben Henderson, Josh Thomson, Ryan Couture, and Peter Queally. However, his reign as Bellator lightweight champion ended with a loss to Usman Nurmagomedov.

The 39-year-old Brazilian also left his mark internationally, representing Bellator in Japan under the RIZIN banner. He thrilled fans by securing knockouts over Luiz Gustavo, Tatsuya Kawajiri, and RIZIN champion Roberto Satoshi, showcasing his ability to compete and win on the global stage.

Pitbull’s final Bellator bout was a decision loss to Alexander Shabliy, after which he transitioned to the PFL for its 2024 lightweight season. However, his stint there proved challenging, as he suffered defeats against Clay Collard and Bruno Miranda.

Reflecting on his career and looking ahead, Pitbull shared his thoughts on social media:

“Former Bellator lightweight champion, most wins in the lightweight division and most KOs in company history. I’ll never forget all the amazing moments I had with the organization. And a couple of fun fights on PFL. I’m excited for what will be coming next.”

With his move to GFL, fans eagerly anticipate what’s next for the veteran fighter. Known for his knockout power and relentless fighting style, Pitbull remains a must-watch competitor as he embarks on this new journey in 2025.
