Paige VanZant celebrated her first combat sports victory since 2019, making a spectacular debut at Power Slap 8. The former UFC and BKFC star faced Christine Wolmarans and delivered an outstanding performance, securing two knockdowns and a unanimous decision win.
VanZant, 30, demonstrated her striking prowess by flooring Wolmarans with her second and third slaps in the three-round contest. Although Wolmarans managed to endure, she could not land significant blows on VanZant. Even after VanZant was penalized for flinching in the third round, giving Wolmarans a fourth attempt, the result was decisive. All three judges scored the match 30-25 in VanZant’s favour.
“Honestly, it was absolutely incredible,” VanZant stated. “Of course, I wanted to knock her out with the first slap, but I’m so happy that it went the way that it did. I knew I could take a punch, I knew I could take a slap. That was really fun.”
This win marks VanZant’s return to victory after several challenges in her combat sports journey. Her last win came in 2019 when she submitted Rachael Ostovich in the UFC. She then faced a first-round loss to Amanda Ribas in her final UFC fight and consecutive decision losses in bare-knuckle boxing against Britain Hart and Ostovich. Most recently, she fought to a split draw against Elle Brooke in an influencer boxing match after an early knockdown.
Now back in the winner’s circle with her Power Slap debut, VanZant is reinvigorated and excited for the future. She indicated that this debut is not a one-time event, and she looks forward to more opportunities in Power Slap to showcase her resilience and striking abilities.
VanZant’s comeback is a significant achievement and an exciting moment for her fans. As she embarks on this new chapter, the combat sports world is eager to see what she will accomplish next.
