Former UFC star Paige VanZant is making waves in the slap-fighting world, securing a dominant victory at Power Slap 12 on Friday. After a previous bout ended in a draw due to a foul, VanZant bounced back impressively, claiming a unanimous decision win over Mikael-Michelle Brown.
Competing in a more natural weight class at 125 pounds, VanZant switched from her usual left hand to her right for this bout. While she didn’t land a knockout, she delivered the more effective strikes, earning a clean sweep on the scorecards (30-27 across the board). Reflecting on her performance, she admitted,
“I think I’m going to go back to my left. My left is more powerful.”
With two wins and a draw in her Power Slap career, VanZant is now eyeing bigger opportunities—specifically, the introduction of women’s titles. She made her case directly to Power Slap founder Dana White, saying,
“Hey Dana, where’s that [125-pound] belt, baby? Put me on the next card. Let’s get some women’s belts. We’re here to stay. We’re here to knock bitches out and slap people all day.”
Although neither fighter was knocked down during the exchange, VanZant landed the heavier shots while Brown struggled to find her mark. With her growing success in slap-fighting, along with commitments to BKFC and a recent deal with GFL, VanZant’s combat sports career remains as busy as ever. Adding to the excitement, her husband, Austin Vanderford, recently made a successful UFC debut on short notice at UFC Seattle.
Now, the question remains—will Power Slap introduce a women’s title, and will VanZant be the first to fight for it?
