Strawweight champion Joshua Pacio will defend his title against Jarred Brooks on June 3 at ONE 158. On which Joshua Pacio has guaranteed his and ONE Championship fans 'fireworks'.
The American Challenger won the title shot last month with a first-round submission win over Booking Masunane in Singapore.
Filipino champion Yosuke Saruta will be looking for his fourth defense of his second title since the 2021 knockout.
Jarred Brooks is finally ready to pursue his dream and will challenge Joshua Pacio for the One Championship Straight MMA title.
The 29-year-old American grappling specialist will receive his crack from the 26-year-old Filipino champion Paceio on June 3, heading to the One Championship 158 event, possibly in Singapore.
Two-time Strawweight Champion Pacio (20-3) has made three successful defenses in the title race, most recently in a rubber match against rival Yosuke Sarita last September. Pacio will be challenged by Brooks (19-2, 1 NC), who has five consecutive wins, including a three-fight winning streak since joining ONE.
"Challenging for the title of the best organization in the world is a dream come true," Brooks said. "I've been thinking, sleeping and breathing all my life fighting games. And winning the ballot would mean more than life itself.
Pacio is undoubtedly the king of 125 pounds. He has won eight of his last nine matches, losing just one in the last four and a half years. As part of the popular Lakay team, Pacio is in the process of importing new skills into wushu-style art in mixed martial arts. With the immediate launch of its new streaming deal with Amazon Prime, One is poised to experience rapid growth, with the 26-year-old Pacio being among those who have the potential to become a breakout star.
"I was the champion and I am ready to defend my title," said Pacio. "I know Jared will be as strong as he is, ready, but I'm going to use all the tools we're working on. My team and I are ready to be champions.
Also on ONE 158, Filipino fighter Jenlin Olsom will return to action against Brazilian atom weight Julie Mizarba.
Jenlin Olsom made her debut in the 2021 One Championship. In the first round, he defeated Maira Mazar through Galoutin Chowk. Next, he won the decision over Bi Nguyen. The match was for an alternative position for the 2021 One Women's Atom Weight Grand Prix.
Japanese fighter Atsuki Hirata unfortunately had to withdraw from the tournament, which allowed Olsom to enter the Grand Prix. He then competed against Commonwealth Games gold medalist wrestler Reto Phugat and lost by a decision.
Julie Mizarba was also a substitute for the 2021 Atomweight Grand Prix. Seo Hee Ham was forced to withdraw from the tournament, allowing Mesbarba to take the field as an alternative. Brazilian players lost to event winner Stamp Fairtex.
Both Mesbarba and Olsom will be looking to win rhetoric after their defeats in the 2021 tournament. It will be a competitive match where both fighters will try to prove that they are at the top of the competitive atom weight division.
