Former NFL stars Chad Johnson and James Harrison have teased an exciting exhibition MMA fight scheduled before Super Bowl LIX, which will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9. The two former athletes hinted at this potential showdown in a playful exchange on social media, creating buzz about the unusual pairing.

Chad Johnson, known for his flashy career as a wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals, was the first to spark the conversation with a tweet.

“I’m fighting James Harrison in an exhibition MMA format three-round bout in New Orleans before Super Bowl, I’m so excited,” Johnson tweeted on Wednesday, surprising fans with the announcement.

James Harrison, the fearsome former linebacker with a stellar 15-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, added fuel to the fire by replying,

“It’s five rounds, [Johnson],” confirming the rumor and turning up the heat in their banter.

Johnson quickly responded by predicting an easy first-round finish, while Harrison countered confidently, stating that Johnson wouldn’t be able to stand by the end of the fight.

Johnson, 46, is no stranger to the fight world. He previously competed in an exhibition boxing match against Brian Maxwell on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul event in June 2021. Although Johnson performed admirably, he was knocked down in the final moments, but no official winner was declared, as it was an exhibition. Now, Johnson is ready to take on Harrison in MMA, claiming he’ll submit him with a guillotine choke.

Harrison, also 46, brings an imposing presence to the potential fight, with a considerable size and strength advantage over Johnson. Known for his dominance on the football field, Harrison was a key part of two Super Bowl championship teams with the Steelers and was recently inducted into the team’s Hall of Honor.

While no official date has been set, both athletes appear to be sorting out the details of their potential MMA bout, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more information.
