Nassourdine Imavov delivered a standout performance in front of a home crowd at UFC Paris, securing a unanimous decision victory over Brendan Allen in the co-main event. Imavov’s impressive takedown defense and well-rounded game proved too much for Allen, ending the American's seven-fight win streak.
Brendan Allen entered the bout with strong momentum, having submitted five of his previous opponents with rear-naked chokes, including specialists like Paul Craig and Andre Muniz. Early in the fight, Allen showcased his grappling ability, securing a takedown within seconds and controlling Imavov from the top position for nearly five minutes. Despite Allen's dominance on the ground, his submission threats were minimal, allowing Imavov to weather the storm.
The tide turned in the second round as Imavov quickly adapted to Allen's wrestling. He effectively stuffed every takedown attempt and began finding success with his striking. Imavov also showcased his grappling skills, reversing some of Allen's attempts and landing heavy ground-and-pound from the top position. The fight became a striking battle in the final seconds, with both fighters exchanging blows, but time ran out before either could land a decisive shot.
In the end, all three judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Imavov, awarding him rounds two and three. After the victory, Imavov expressed his surprise at Allen's durability but felt confident in his claim for a title shot.
“In the last seven months, I’ve had three fights, my last two opponents I’ve beaten were contenders for the belt,” Imavov stated after his win. “My objective now is for the belt. I deserve a shot at the belt because I think I’ve proved myself now.”
With this win, Imavov has firmly established himself as a top contender in the middleweight division, and a potential title shot could be on the horizon.
