Mike Tyson, the boxing legend, is in good health following reports of a pre-flight medical scare before boarding a flight in Miami on Sunday. Representatives from Tyson’s team confirmed that the 57-year-old is “doing great” after experiencing a medical emergency. The incident was initially reported by In Touch Weekly.
Despite the health scare, Tyson is expected to proceed with his highly anticipated return to the ring on July 20. He is set to fight social media influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This pro contest will be aired live on Netflix, marking Tyson’s first fight since an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020 and his first professional fight since June 2005.
Tyson's team issued the following statement regarding his health:
"Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him. However, it’s false reporting that his medical attention caused the flight delay. This two-hour delay was due to air conditioning issues on the aircraft."
Jake Paul responded to the news, assuring fans that the upcoming fight remains unchanged. Paul criticized the spread of misinformation, stating:
"You love to make shit up before knowing the facts for clicks/likes. Nothing changed."
Tyson's return to the ring has generated significant buzz in the boxing community and among fans worldwide. The bout against Paul is expected to draw a massive audience, given the unique matchup between the legendary former heavyweight champion and the controversial YouTube star.
Tyson’s ulcer flare-up is a reminder of the challenges faced by athletes returning to competition after a long hiatus. However, his team’s assurance that he is in good health and ready to fight has quelled immediate concerns. Fans can now look forward to an exciting showdown on July 20, where Tyson will aim to showcase his enduring prowess in the ring against the younger, brash Paul.
