Michael "Venom" Page showcased his growing grappling skills to claim victory over former UFC star Carlos Condit in the Polaris 30 main event in London. Known primarily for his striking prowess in MMA, “MVP” entered the match determined to add another layer to his martial arts legacy. Previously recognized as a dangerous striker and Bellator title contender, Page has recently ventured into boxing and bare-knuckle boxing. However, his ultimate goal has become more holistic—to build a “legacy of being a true martial artist.”
Condit, an ex-UFC and WEC titleholder, brought experience and danger, especially in submissions, having finished opponents with both knockouts (15) and submissions (13) in his MMA career. Right from the start of the 10-minute bout, Condit attempted to take control by pulling guard, forcing Page to defend his position. Their ground exchanges kept the match thrilling, with Condit initiating multiple leg attacks, including a toe hold and knee bar. However, Page skillfully escaped each submission, thanks to his team’s preparation for Condit’s leg-focused grappling approach.
The match saw the two fighters repeatedly return to their feet, only to grapple back to the mat, demonstrating each athlete’s defensive and offensive strategies. In one notable exchange, Page’s takedown attempt led to Condit accidentally tumbling over the lighting system, pausing the match briefly with just seconds remaining. Despite a valiant effort by Condit, Page was awarded the decision victory when the clock expired. Reflecting on the game, Page expressed admiration for his opponent, noting,
“He’s a tough guy, really strong, grips are crazy. I’m used to being the one that has the grips.”
Condit, though disappointed, appreciated the back-and-forth nature of the match.
“I thought I had some great moments throughout the match. Just got to get back and work on some stuff,” he said, adding that he had hoped to secure a submission on Page’s legs.
In the co-main event, Helena Crevar successfully defended her Polaris title against Nia Blackman, winning by decision. Additionally, UFC featherweight Nathaniel Wood returned to grappling, facing octagon veteran Cameron Else on the mats. Polaris 30 offered an exciting blend of skill, endurance, and respect between its fighters, highlighted by Page’s standout performance against Condit.
