Michael “Venom” Page is setting his sights on a major British showdown following his impressive victory at UFC Saudi Arabia. The dynamic striker picked up a decision win over Shara Magomedov in the co-main event, and while he’s open to fighting anyone, he has one specific opponent in mind: former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
In the post-fight press conference, Page (23-3) expressed his interest in facing Edwards but made it clear that his motivation isn’t personal. Instead, he believes the fight would be a spectacle for British MMA fans.
"The only one I talk about is Leon Edwards, but that’s more so at a specific location," Page said. "It’s only for the U.K. It’s not because of him. I just think the fight would be great for my fans over in the U.K."
Page’s victory over Magomedov was particularly impressive, considering he moved up from 170 pounds to 185 to take on the then-undefeated Russian striker. Despite being the underdog against a heavier and younger opponent, Page dominated the bout. However, he admitted he wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance, as he didn’t deliver one of his signature knockouts.
"I want to make a lot of noise and I haven’t gotten the highlight I’ve wanted – yet," he said. "But if I can keep getting some exciting matchups, why not (continue fighting)?"
Page, a former Bellator standout, made his UFC debut at UFC 299, securing a win over Kevin Holland. With two consecutive victories inside the Octagon, he’s quickly proving himself a force to be reckoned with in the welterweight and middleweight divisions.
A potential Leon Edwards vs. Michael Page fight in the U.K. would be a blockbuster event, especially with the UFC rumored to return to London later this year. With Page’s striking flair and Edwards’ championship pedigree, it could be one of the most exciting British MMA matchups in recent history.
