UFC has added another superstar to its squad. An unbeaten prospect and Combate Global strawweight champion, Martinez (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion.
On September 10, former combat global champion Melissa Martinez will make her UFC debut against seven-time Octagon veteran Hannah Cifers. Lichald Scott was the first to report this news.
The 23-year-old Martinez (7-0) will enter her Octagon debut with a professional mark, with all but one of her victories coming under the Combate Global banner. This will be the first appearance since December 2019 for a native of Mexico City, who claimed 115 pounds of gold with a decisive victory over Desiree Yanez on the tito Ortiz Alberto Rodriguez undercard.
Martinez is also a decorated kickboxer who represented the Mexican national kickboxing team and won a gold medal at the 2016 Panamanian Kickboxing Championships and a silver medal at the 2017 World Games.
The Cifers (10-7) will likely be fighting for their UFC job after dropping four consecutive losses in the last two years. After entering the UFC with an 8-2 record in 2018, "Shockwave" abandoned its first fight before winning back-to-back victories. She has been on her 0-4 skid since 2020 and has not fought since competing against Mallory Martin this year. She was scheduled to face Emily Whitmere in 2021 before being forced to resign.
Do you think that Combate Global strawweight champion, Martinez will also become a champion in UFC?
Or Cifers Martinez will taste the first defeat?
