In a significant development in the heavyweight boxing world as the World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered a title eliminator bout, setting the stage for an intense showdown between Martin Bakole and Cassius Chaney and a potential future champion to face the winner of the Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Uysk fight next month.
The extraordinary successes that Bakole and Chaney have achieved in the ring have brought them both to the forefront of public attention in the last few years, rising them up the rankings respectfully.
Bakole, who was competing at a career-high weight of 299.4 pounds, when he made light work of the tough and durable Carlos Takem, in a way many of the heaviest hitters could not. A feat that should not be overlooked. As a result of this fight, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the undercard of the Fury-Ngannou event, Bakole won his ninth consecutive fight since he was defeated by Michael Hunter in 2018, marking an incredible comeback, the rewards of which are being seen in this development.
Chaney, on the other hand, has given his career a new lease on life by shockingly knocking out Trevor Bryan, a former WBA 'Regular' champion, in the seventh round of a fight, and could now find himself at the very heights of the sport, should he get past this next test.
The current landscape of the heavyweight division features Oleksandr Usyk at the very top as the undefeated WBA 'Super' titleholder, a man who needs no introduction. In additon to his WBA, of which Bakole and Chaney fight for the chance of obtianing furter down the line, he also holds the IBF and WBO belts, of which he puts on the line against Tyson Fury, the lineal and WBC champion, on February 17.
But what will happen remains to be scene, with a lot of factors to determine, but who would you like to see come out on top? And who would you like to see them come up against when they do? Let us know down below!
