Malignaggi Doubts Canelo's Willingness to Face Morrell

Canelo Alvarez is like a king with all the shiny world titles to prove his reign. But 2023 hasn't been a smooth ride for him.

At the start of the year, Alvarez had a bit of a lackluster performance against John Ryder. He won most of the rounds, but he didn't look as dominant as usual. However, he bounced back with an impressive showing against Jermell Charlo.

Despite his status, some people, like boxing analyst Paulie Malignaggi, think there are two fighters who could give Alvarez a run for his money: David Morrell and David Benavidez. Morrell, a 25-year-old Cuban, has been on fire in the ring, taking down opponents left and right. Benavidez, on the other hand, has some big wins under his belt and is eager for a shot at Alvarez.

While these challengers are eager for a shot at the title, Malignaggi doesn't think Alvarez is in a hurry to face them. According to him, Alvarez does things his own way and might not feel pressured to fight them anytime soon.

"Morrell is so good that I don’t think Canelo wants any parts of him either," Malignaggi said in an interview with ProBox TV. "I don't think Canelo wants any part of either of them."

So, for now, Alvarez remains the king of the super middleweight division, but there are whispers of challengers on the horizon.
