Lorenzo Hunt Suspended 18 Months for Positive Drug Test and Elevated Testosterone Levels

Lorenzo Hunt Suspended 18 Months for Positive Drug Test
Lorenzo Hunt

Ex-BKFC champion Lorenzo Hunt has been issued an 18-month suspension and fined $40,000 after testing positive for a banned substance and elevated testosterone levels. This significant penalty follows his fight at BKFC KnuckleMania 4 in April, where Hunt's drug test revealed the presence of the anabolic steroid trenbolone metabolite epitrenbolone and a testosterone ratio of 172, far exceeding the conventional threshold of 4.

The California State Athletic Commission handed down Hunt’s punishment during their monthly meeting in June. In addition to the suspension and fine, which is 40 percent of his $100,000 fight purse, Hunt must also cover a $500 fee for the drug test. Moreover, he is required to provide the commission with six negative full WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) panel drug tests at his own expense before he can be cleared to fight in the state again.

Hunt, who has claimed titles across multiple divisions in BKFC, had relinquished his belts to challenge heavyweight champion Mick Terrill. Unfortunately, the fight did not go as planned for Hunt. He suffered an injury less than two minutes into the opening round, resulting in a TKO victory for Terrill. Despite Hunt’s positive drug test, the win for Terrill remains valid.

Documentation from the California State Athletic Commission revealed Hunt’s positive test results. Following this, Hunt requested an appeal, which led to a hearing in June. However, the 41-year-old fighter did not attend the hearing, leading the commission to finalize the suspension, fines, and additional stipulations.

Although Hunt has not yet addressed the suspension publicly, he faces a lengthy period away from competition. He will be sidelined until at least October 2025, according to the commission's ruling.
