Leon Edwards, the British MMA sensation, has set his sights on reclaiming the UFC welterweight title. After losing the belt to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in a one-sided bout, Edwards, famously known as “Rocky,” is determined to climb his way back to the top. His confidence and resilience remain unwavering, as he boldly declared his goal to regain the championship within the next year.

“My goal right now is to get the belt back,” Edwards revealed. “I’d like to be champion by the end of next year — around this time next year, so I’m just putting steps in place.”

Edwards’ journey to the top is one of perseverance and unforgettable moments. Fans still remember his iconic head-kick knockout of Kamaru Usman in the dying seconds of UFC 278, a fight Usman had dominated until the final minute. This victory crowned Edwards as the welterweight champion for the first time in August 2022. He later solidified his position by defeating Usman again at UFC 286 and dominating Colby Covington at UFC 296.

However, his recent loss to Muhammad marked a turning point. This defeat was his first since December 2015, breaking a remarkable nine-year unbeaten streak. Reflecting on the setback, Edwards said,

“I haven’t lost a fight in like nine years. It’s getting used to that feeling again, but I feel like I hate losing more than I love winning. There’s not much you can do now, you know, just move on from that and put it behind you.”

Now, with a renewed focus and determination, Edwards is looking ahead.

“For me, it’s more about what’s next and how do you get back to where you want to get to. My goal is to be a two-time world champion,” he stated.

As fans eagerly watch his journey, Edwards’ passion and grit serve as a reminder of why he remains one of the sport’s most exciting fighters.
