Khamzat Chimaev, the undefeated sensation in the UFC, is setting his sights on a return to the octagon with a title shot in mind. After a year-long hiatus, Chimaev (13-0) plans to make his comeback at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, eager to have gold on the line.

Chimaev last fought in October 2023 at UFC 294, securing a majority decision victory over former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. This victory solidified his status as a top contender, and now he aims to continue his undefeated streak with a title opportunity.

"Most likely (my return will happen) in October in Abu Dhabi," Chimaev shared with Match TV in Russian. "The opponent is unknown so far. I would like to fight for the title."

Chimaev's record in the UFC is nothing short of impressive. With seven victories, five of which were stoppages, he has proven to be a dominant force in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions. However, Chimaev is slightly mistaken about his statistics. There are two other undefeated fighters in the UFC—Movsar Evloev and Ian Machado Garry—who have each won eight fights without yet earning a title shot.

The middleweight division is heating up, with a title fight between current champion Dricus Du Plessis and former champ Israel Adesanya scheduled for UFC 305 on August 17 in Perth, Australia. Chimaev's potential inclusion in the title picture adds another layer of excitement to the division.

Chimaev was previously slated to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in the UFC on ABC 6 headliner in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on June 22. Unfortunately, health issues forced him to withdraw from the bout, a recurring problem that has concerned UFC CEO Dana White.

"Lately it's been hard to get him into the octagon," White said on "The Jim Rome Show." "Every time he gets close to fighting, he gets really sick. I don't know what to say. It’s not like he’s over here in this country and we’ve had doctors look at him or anything like that. He’s sort of out of touch, so it’s tough to deal with."

Despite these setbacks, Chimaev remains determined to compete for the title upon his return. His undefeated record and dominant performances have made him a favorite among fans and analysts alike. Many, including White, see him as a potential future champion.

As UFC 308 approaches, all eyes will be on Abu Dhabi to see if Chimaev can overcome his health challenges and continue his path to UFC gold.
