Just when a champion seems untouchable, a fierce challenger emerges to shake the foundations of their reign. At ONE 172: Takeru vs. Rodtang, Japan’s Kana Morimoto is ready to prove she is that challenger. On Sunday, March 23, inside Saitama Super Arena, the decorated striker will step into the ring against Phetjeeja, the reigning ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion.
Nicknamed the Krusher Queen, Kana has built a formidable reputation with her striking power. Facing an opponent who hasn't lost a fight since 2017 and remains undefeated in six promotional outings in ONE Championship, Kana is unfazed. With 11 knockouts to her name, she believes her one-punch power will be the ultimate game-changer.
“This is a huge opportunity, and I will win the ONE Championship belt in Japan. I truly believe I’m the only one in the world who can beat Phetjeeja, so I have to win,” Kana said, exuding confidence ahead of the high-stakes showdown.
Phetjeeja’s well-rounded skills and relentless fighting style make her a dominant force. However, Kana is determined to rise to the occasion, stating,
“Of course, the stronger my opponent, the higher my motivation. I think Phetjeeja is a well-rounded athlete who can do everything, but I believe my knockout power in a single strike is superior to hers.”
Beyond personal glory, Kana carries the weight of national pride on her shoulders. ONE 172 has been billed as Japan versus the world, and she wants to make history as Japan’s next ONE World Champion.
“I’m also the only female Japanese athlete in the event, which makes it even more special for me,” she said. “I believe this is a great opportunity to showcase Japanese female athletes to the world, and I feel a strong responsibility to demonstrate the strength of Japanese martial artists on this stage.”
With her sights set on the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title, Kana Morimoto is prepared to shock the world and prove that she is Phetjeeja’s ultimate test at ONE 172.
