Kai Kara-France Stuns Steve Erceg with Devastating First-Round Knockout at UFC 305
UFC 305: Kai Kara-France vs. Steve Erceg

Kai Kara-France made an unforgettable return to the octagon at UFC 305, delivering a powerful first-round knockout over Steve Erceg in the co-main event. After a 14-month hiatus, Kara-France wasted no time reestablishing himself as a top contender in the flyweight division with one of the most impressive victories of his career.

The fight began with Kara-France carefully navigating Erceg’s reach advantage, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. That opportunity came late in the first round when Kara-France unleashed a massive overhand left that sent Erceg crashing to the canvas. Despite the initial knockdown, Erceg managed to get back to his feet, but Kara-France was relentless in his pursuit. A brutal right hook followed, flooring Erceg once again and prompting the referee to stop the fight to prevent further damage. The fight concluded at 4:04 of the opening round.

“How’d you guys like that, Perth?” Kara-France exclaimed to the ecstatic Australian crowd.

He then paid respect to his opponent, saying,

“Hats off to Steve, he’s a gentleman. He’s the man.” Reflecting on his journey back to the octagon, Kara-France added, “A year ago I had to take time away. With the best team in the world City Kickboxing, this is what we love. This is what we do best. We knew Steve was going to be crafty. So we had to set him up for the second phase.”

Kara-France’s victory was particularly sweet after enduring back-to-back losses that sidelined him for over a year. The return fight took place in his home region of Australia, where he had the support of the local crowd. Despite facing some early challenges from Erceg’s range, Kara-France’s patience paid off as he found the opening he needed to land his powerful strikes.

The emphatic knockout not only marked Kara-France’s return to form but also reinserted him into the conversation as one of the top contenders in the 125-pound division. While a title shot may not be immediate, reigning flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja currently lacks an opponent, making it possible for Kara-France to be considered for a future title bout.

“This is the statement I was talking about,” Kara-France said, emphasizing the significance of his performance. “I want my actions to be my loudest voice.”
