Jorge Masvidal, the original BMF champion, is preparing for a high-profile return to the UFC and has set his sights on two marquee opponents: Conor McGregor and Leon Edwards. Masvidal plans to return in April 2025 at the UFC’s anticipated pay-per-view event in Miami, marking his first MMA appearance since retiring in 2023.
Masvidal (35-17) has a storied history with both fighters, but he’s particularly eager to face McGregor.
“I’d like for it to be Conor (McGregor) because I heard he also wants to fight on that same date,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “He’s never mentioned my name because he knows I’ll rip his head off. However, if he and the UFC make that mistake, I’ll take his head off in Miami in April.”
The fight would be a spectacle for fans and a massive draw for the UFC. Masvidal believes their matchup could shatter pay-per-view records.
“He knows I’m the best pay-per-view draw right behind him,” Masvidal said. “He’s No. 1, and then it’s me regarding who’s sold the most pay-per-views in recent years. What would a fight between me and him do? That would break all records.”
While McGregor remains his ideal opponent, Masvidal is also open to reigniting his rivalry with former welterweight champion Leon Edwards. The two share a heated history stemming from their backstage altercation in 2019, and Masvidal believes now is the perfect time to settle the score.
“He and I have history, and it’s time to settle it,” Masvidal stated. “He’s not booked, and neither am I. Let’s go, sign the contract, and I’ll break your face.”
Masvidal’s return to MMA follows his 2024 boxing loss to Nate Diaz by majority decision. Despite the setback, “Gamebred” remains one of MMA’s biggest stars, promising fans an electrifying performance in his UFC comeback. Whether against McGregor or Edwards, Masvidal’s return is poised to be a blockbuster event.
