Jorge Masvidal is preparing for a UFC return after briefly stepping away from MMA. The "BMF" champion, who retired in 2023 following a loss to Gilbert Burns, revealed in an interview that he is already in talks for his next fight, potentially returning in late 2024 or early 2025.
"I’ve been talking to my boy Hunter [Campbell]," Masvidal shared, hinting that negotiations for his return are underway.
He mentioned finding a suitable opponent will be the next step, as he focuses on locking down a fight date. Although Masvidal ventured into boxing following his retirement, including a rematch against Nate Diaz, the outcome left him with a sense of injustice. Despite landing more significant strikes, Masvidal lost the fight via a majority decision. He attributed the loss to biased judging, as all three judges were from California, Diaz’s home state.
“How do you rob somebody so blatantly?” Masvidal said, expressing frustration at the result.
He detailed how his team initially pushed for a fair judging panel, but Diaz’s team insisted on California judges. This experience, along with his post-fight review, reignited Masvidal’s competitive spirit and desire to return to the UFC.
Reflecting on the fight, Masvidal emphasized that he’s an MMA fighter and has been training diligently to get back into fighting shape. While he's open to future boxing bouts if the opportunity arises, his primary focus is reclaiming his position in the UFC.
Masvidal's return could happen sooner rather than later, with possible matchups on the horizon. He hinted at a fight with Michael Chandler or longtime rival Conor McGregor, adding that he’s evaluating all his options.
“It could be Vegas, Dec. 7. I’ll f*cking drop Michael Chandler dead on his ass,” he said, teasing fans with what’s to come.
