Jorge Masvidal Calls Out Gaethje for 'BMF Battle': 'I'll Chop Him Up

Retired UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a return to the octagon, with his sights set on a showdown against current 'BMF' titleholder Justin Gaethje. Masvidal, who famously retired from MMA after a loss to Gilbert Burns last April, vacated the symbolic 'BMF' championship he won in 2019 against Nate Diaz.

The 'BMF' title was set to be contested between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier in a rematch, with Gaethje emerging victorious with a second-round knockout over Poirier at UFC 291 last July. Masvidal, a longtime training partner of Poirier, expressed his disappointment at seeing Gaethje claim the title.

Now, Gaethje is set to defend the 'BMF' title against Max Holloway at UFC 300 in April, and Masvidal is eager for a potential future matchup. In a recent interview with Lowkick MMA, Masvidal expressed his desire to fight Gaethje, believing he can emerge victorious if they face off in the cage.

Masvidal acknowledged Gaethje's skills but expressed confidence in his ability to defeat him, stating, "When I won the belt, Dana said it would be one of one. The belt would be done, there would be no defending of it. So there was no talk about it, at least for me. But I think now, the temperature on that theme has changed, you know?"

While Masvidal has been linked to a boxing match against Nate Diaz later this year, neither fighter has confirmed the bout. However, Masvidal's desire to face Gaethje in the octagon remains strong, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster matchup in the future.
