Jorge Masvidal, one of the UFC’s most iconic and polarizing figures, has announced his plans for a highly anticipated return to the octagon in April 2025. Speaking on Jake Shields' Fight Back podcast, Masvidal confirmed that he’s gearing up for a UFC comeback in his hometown of Miami, although his opponent remains undecided.
“I will be back. April next year in the UFC, yes sir,” Masvidal revealed. “We don’t have an opponent yet. Hopefully, by December, we will get the opponent. [I’ll be back] in April, [on] the Miami card.”
This announcement comes just months after Masvidal’s return to combat sports in a boxing match against Nate Diaz, which marked his fifth consecutive loss. Despite this setback, the 40-year-old fighter seems more determined than ever to rewrite the final chapters of his storied career.
The Comeback Trail
Masvidal’s recent journey has been tumultuous. Following a four-fight losing streak in the UFC, including defeats to top contenders like Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington, Masvidal officially retired in April 2024. However, retirement didn’t last long. By July, he was back in the ring, squaring off against Diaz in a grudge match that reignited his competitive fire, despite the unanimous decision loss.
Now, with the UFC stage calling him once more, Masvidal is eyeing big-name matchups for his return. Potential opponents include Conor McGregor, known for his own spectacular comebacks, Justin Gaethje, a perennial fan favorite, and former welterweight champion Leon Edwards, who shares a long-standing rivalry with Masvidal.
A Homecoming in Miami?
Although the UFC has not officially announced a Miami event for April 2025, the city has been a recurring host for the promotion. Miami’s vibrant combat sports scene and Masvidal’s deep-rooted connection to the city make this a logical venue for his return.
If the Miami event materializes, it promises to be a massive draw. Masvidal’s 2019 “BMF” title fight against Diaz set the standard for his ability to electrify hometown crowds, and fans are eager to see if he can replicate that magic in what could be his final UFC chapter.
Who Should Jorge Masvidal Fight Next?
Masvidal’s return poses an intriguing question: who deserves to face “Gamebred” in his comeback? Will it be a clash with the ever-controversial Conor McGregor, a fireworks display with Justin Gaethje, or a revenge match against Leon Edwards? Each potential fight comes with compelling narratives, sure to captivate fans worldwide.
Whoever steps into the cage with Masvidal, one thing is certain—his return will bring excitement, drama, and plenty of fireworks.
