Jon Jones has never been one to shy away from a challenge, but when Tom Aspinall questioned his resolve, the UFC heavyweight champion quickly responded. The all-time great took to social media to clarify his stance, addressing the speculation surrounding his future and a potential fight with the interim champion.

Jones (27-1), who recently hinted at retirement after his upcoming bout with Stipe Miocic, responded to Aspinall’s claims that he was dodging a fight. In a series of posts on X, Jones dismissed the notion, emphasizing that his focus has always been on making strategic career decisions, not chasing every contender.

“I guess there was a video that resurfaced recently of me saying that after Stipe, Francis was the only fight I was interested in,” Jones explained. “That video was recorded well over a year ago… before there was an interim champion crowned. I had already voiced that I wasn’t interested in any more randoms.”

Jones made it clear that his career moves are calculated, and he isn’t about to be pressured into changing his plans.

“Now, magically, I’m ducking a fight that’s never been negotiated or discussed at any table that matters. Lol, I’m sticking to my plans, Jon Jones jumps for no one.”

The heavyweight division has seen its fair share of drama over the past year. Jones, who claimed the vacant title in March 2023, has yet to defend it due to an injury that sidelined him. Meanwhile, Aspinall (15-3) secured the interim title and defended it, sparking talk of a unification bout. However, the UFC appears committed to the long-awaited Jones vs. Miocic matchup, leaving Aspinall out of the immediate picture.

“There are fighters literally all over the world that think in the back of their mind I can beat Jon Jones,” Jones wrote, addressing the broader heavyweight division. “There will be no statues of you [Tom]. Go out and win more, make your name greater, that is the only way you do it.”

Jones also hinted that his time in the octagon might be nearing its end, underscoring his desire to finish his career on his own terms.

“I’m 37 years old now, I’ve kicked everyone’s ass. My job is to finish strong and make an amazing movie,” he added, suggesting that his legacy is already sealed, and he’s more interested in ending his career with a statement rather than extending it unnecessarily.

As the UFC gears up for what could be one of the most anticipated heavyweight bouts in history, Jones remains steadfast, showing no signs of wavering under pressure from Aspinall or anyone else.
