Joe Rogan, the renowned UFC commentator and host of The Joe Rogan Experience, believes that Kamaru Usman deserves another shot at the UFC welterweight title. Despite Usman's recent three-fight losing streak, Rogan insists that Usman’s career and accomplishments warrant a title opportunity against current champion Belal Muhammad.
Belal Muhammad won the UFC welterweight title earlier this year at UFC 304 by defeating Leon Edwards. Now, as Muhammad gears up for his first title defense, several contenders are vying for a chance to face him. Among the top contenders is the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov, who many expect to be next in line. However, Rogan argues that the UFC should prioritize booking Usman for this high-stakes match.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan passionately supported Usman, emphasizing the significance of his career and contributions to the sport. Rogan stated,
“I think they give him Kamaru [Usman], that’s the big money fight, it’s the smart fight. They owe Kamaru for Kamaru taking Khamzat [Chimaev] on 10 days’ notice... The guy trained ten days for one of the scariest motherf***ers on Earth. On Earth! I say you gotta give it to Kamaru because I think Kamaru earned it from that alone.”
Usman’s last win came against Colby Covington at UFC 268. After that victory, he faced back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards, including a devastating knockout at UFC 278. Despite these setbacks, Rogan believes the UFC should seize the opportunity to give Usman another shot at the title, especially considering his advancing age.
As Rogan puts it, Usman’s window of opportunity is closing fast,
“You don’t have many more years of Kamaru now, he’s like 37…I say give him another shot.”
