Joanna Jedrzejczyk (16-5), who successfully defended her UFC strawweight title five times, was recently inducted into the modern-era wing of the UFC Hall of Fame. She joins Ronda Rousey as one of only two women to achieve this honor.
Since her retirement following a knockout loss to Zhang Weili in June 2022, Jedrzejczyk has expressed her longing for competition. However, it would take something as thrilling as a BMF title fight to draw her back into the octagon.
“I would love to [fight], but I don’t have a name in my head,” Jedrzejczyk told Cageside Press. “I don’t know—whoever. I’m not afraid to fight anybody, that’s the thing. When they brought up my name for a BMF fight, I texted Hunter [Campbell] right away."
She continued,
“I was like, ‘So, Hunter, what do you think about me fighting for the female BMF belt,’ and he was like, ‘No, you don’t need more titles.’ But if they create the BMF for women, I want to be the first. I would come out of my retirement to fight for the BMF belt. Let’s go.”
Being present at Saturday’s UFC 303 event at T-Mobile Arena only intensified her desire to return to the ring.
“When I’m at events like UFC X, hanging out with my friends or attending UFC events, I feel the itch,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I always tell my manager, maybe I should fight, maybe I should come out of retirement. I have the itch.”
Jedrzejczyk's passion for fighting remains undiminished, and the possibility of a women's BMF title could be the perfect catalyst for her return. Fans and fellow fighters alike are excited to see if this legendary champion will once again step into the octagon.
