Jeremy Stephens is making his way back to the UFC. The longtime veteran, who has competed in 34 fights under the UFC banner, is set for a triumphant return as he faces fellow promotional returnee Mason Jones at UFC Des Moines on May 3. The lightweight matchup will take place at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, giving Stephens a chance to fight in front of his hometown crowd.
The UFC officially announced the fight early Friday, following an initial report by Full Send MMA.
Stephens (29-21) has been absent from MMA competition since November 2022, with his last UFC fight dating back to July 2021 before he parted ways with the organization. After leaving the UFC, Stephens had a three-fight stint in the PFL, going 1-2. However, he didn’t stop competing. Instead, he transitioned into boxing—both gloved and bare-knuckle—where he squared off with elite competition.
In boxing, Stephens fought to a draw against former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo before suffering a loss to Chris Avila. He then signed with BKFC, where he found more success. The heavy-hitting lightweight defeated Jimmie Rivera and Bobby Taylor before making a statement against Eddie Alvarez at Knuckle Mania 5 in January, earning a dominant victory.
His opponent, Mason Jones (15-2), has also earned his way back to the UFC after a brief departure. Jones originally left the promotion in 2022 but went on an impressive four-fight win streak in Cage Warriors, securing three knockouts along the way. That dominant run convinced the UFC to bring him back for another shot at success.
With both fighters eager to prove themselves once again inside the Octagon, the lightweight showdown at UFC Des Moines promises to deliver fireworks. Stephens will look to showcase his power in front of his home fans, while Jones aims to make a statement in his second UFC stint.
