Jake Paul has long claimed that he’ll fight under MMA rules someday, and the latest buzz suggests it could be against Mike Perry. The two fighters squared off under boxing rules this past Saturday, with Paul securing an emphatic victory by knocking out Perry in the sixth round. The pre- and post-fight banter between them fluctuated between friendly and antagonistic, but they appear to be at peace for now.
On Thursday, Paul tweeted about having a productive conversation with Perry, hinting at a possible future fight under MMA rules in the PFL.
“Chopped it up with Mike Perry last night,” Paul wrote. “What a stand-up dude. More confidence than most of these fighters. We agreed to run it in PFL when the time is right.” Perry responded, “Appreciate ya dude, respect.”
Paul announced his signing with the PFL in January 2023 but has yet to compete for the promotion as he continues to focus on his boxing career. At 27, Paul has rattled off four straight wins after a disappointing split decision loss to rival Tommy Fury.
While a rematch with Perry under any rule set seems unlikely anytime soon, Paul’s ambitions are clearly aimed higher. He has his sights set on bigger opponents, including UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Although a fight with Pereira seems improbable, Paul’s openness to future competition is evident.
In a subsequent tweet, Paul expressed his willingness to compete in Perry’s recently founded Dirty Boxing Championship organization. This openness highlights Paul's strategic approach to his fighting career, balancing his aspirations in both boxing and MMA while keeping fans eagerly anticipating his next move.
